Like I said, live here. I lived here and it's great. In the TenderNob/Lower Nob hill on the edge of the tl. Gym, 16th floor sun deck, side patio w BBQ, laundry, doorman. The neighborhood is a block away from my two faves, Rye and Osha. This place needs some paint, but 15th floor views are nice. Rent is up $500 since 2009/2010.
- I know exactly where that is. Olley a bum for me bromonospaced

They'll probably pay you to live in San Bruno.

I live right on the southern tip of Buena Vista Park. 2 mins walk from Corona Heights (best views in the city), and 5-15 mins walk to Castro, Mission, Lower Haight, Haight-Ashbury, Nopa, and Cole Valley. Rent is steep but it's a beautiful area and there's a shitload of stuff all around.

I've lived in SOMA, Haight, Outer Richmond, and now I live in Hayes Valley. OUter RIchmond is nice if you don't mind the fog (Karl).

Here is my sage advice to you:
Expect to spend atleast $1800 on a place that is basically a roof over your head. More so for the popular neighborhoods as others have already mentioned. Also budget in atleast 2 to 3 weeks of money for an AirBNB or hotel situation because finding a place is highly competitive and it isn't uncommon for people to outbid each other for sought after places. A typical deposit is typically your 1st month and last month.
My old 1bedroom place NOPA which was $2050 in 2010 is now $2750. The day I left that place, there were about 15 people lined up for a showing, it was gone in minutes at that price even.
Bring money.

I would love to live in Montara near the beach. Surf every morning.
