Every time I think "oh, this will be the film that does 3D right" I end up being extremely disappointed. It always takes me out of the experience, rather than make it more immersive. I've been burned so many times that it's hard for me to justify seeing this in 3D.
- it is the best use of the technology and the only one that well... kind of needs itCALLES
- Its not as amazing in 3D as Avatar, not even really close, but its still very good in 3D.CygnusZero4

For example, an astronaut would never ask "what do I do?" when floating out into space. They would fill their colostomy bag and report their coordinates.
- Editing and drama. Nobody wants to watch the everyone -stays-calm version of this.i_monk
- There are coordinates in space?CygnusZero4
- In relation to something else? Of course there are.cannonball1978

Reminds me of those horror movies where people get stranded on a raft...but in space

This movie was meant to be seen at the theatres, it's like a theme park ride.
- < Aye, this. I watched it at home and was terribly disappointed. barely a story, barely any purpose - just CGI.detritus
- unless your home system fucking rocks! I had a great time with big screen and 5.1 surrondmonospaced

Just saw it last night.. I liked it a lot... but, why make the 3D glasses yellow? MAKE THEM BLACK... It was annoying to see the yellow frames while trying to enjoy the movie...
I saw it in IMAX 3D, (but not true IMAX)... I wouldn't mind seeing it at the Smithsonian IMAX.
- yellow glasses have dual purpose - 3D for the movie and shooting glasses for everyone's rifles.

- mine were black. nice theater you were in.CygnusZero4

Wow. Seriously. Just got home from seeing it. I've never had a movie move me like that before. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen on screen. Saw the Imax 3D and I can't imagine watching this in any lesser format. So many times I felt like I had not taken a breath for like 10 minutes. Almost felt like I was gonna have a mild panic attack at a few parts, it was just so intense.

Just seen it IMAX 3D. Unbelievable. Like others here I'm sure I stopped breathing at some points. The birth/life symbolism was a bit obvious and there's some clumsy dialogue but as pure cinema entertainment I can't remember better. Sandra Bullock looks pretty good in her undercrackers at 49 as well...
- she's 49? christcolin_s
- I thought she was older. I thought she was in her mid 30s at least when Speed came out.CygnusZero4

The way Sandra Bullock acts gives me the impression that she thinks her audience is more interested in seeing her awkwardly negotiate roles as opposed to filling the role out entirely. She doesn't own the roles, so I'll never believe she is an astronaut.
- her role is indeed that of a bumbling, newbie astronaut in the moviesarahfailin
- I'f be worried if you did really believe she's an astronaut.Fax_Benson

This movie was great, esp. the camera work! 5-10 minute scenes without a single cut in between! Must see..

I too was worried for a moment about the casting - but if you think about an actress who comes across as the everyday woman who could be viewed as an astronaut, I feel it makes sense.
She definitely has that wholesome next door feel.
The trailer looks amazing - but I thought there was no sound in space - not that I've been or anything....
- sound waves need to travel through something, and a vacuum doesn't provide a fluid, so not much soundmonospaced
- Maybe even more scary with silent explosion except for shrapnel hitting their spacesuits.lnu
