I wish I learned how to hunt and fish. Unfortunately I lived in NYC.
I do know how to make fire with a bowdrill though.

i grew up trekking and camping around the country and Southern Africa with my dad and younger brother. so many great experiences.
i rock climbed quite intensely in my mid 20s; trained 3 times a week and then spent most of my weekends trying to send ever-more-difficult climbs.
i've also surfed for the last five years or so (late starter), but i've been so lazy the last year. trying to slowly get back in to it again. i did nearly kill myself in big surf a couple years ago, which killed the stoke for me for a while. i got myself into the water quite soon after the incident, but it's always stayed with me...

Walked most of the hills of Scotland, climbed lots. Ice climbing etc. lots of mountain biking. Used to canoe but it was shite. Taken up skiing and snowboarding now as well.

^ what about sea kayaking now since you're taking it easy

^ Tried to learn fly fishing in Patagonia, takes practice. In the meantime, I paddled Hell's Bay in the Everglades National Park. Awesome place for a scary movie.

This sunday we're going for a week to camp with our caravan to french landes; cycling, long walks, brave beaches and bbq... anything i can't do here (i live near the sea and in the middle of mountains too) but, there is way less humid than here.
At last, my entire month of vacations are going to be reduced to that :(

I like the ring of "outdoorsmanship".
Cycling, trail & road running, swimming.
Every 20+ km run, every 60+ km ride and every 1+ km swim are memorable, until the next of course...

you might not think it, but i'm crazy into bushcraft. grew up in the scouts learning survival stuff. go camping as often as possible
most memorable trip was hiking in the grand canyon, ended up getting helicoptered out
- Excellent scarabin character twist; the plot thickens! : )ideaist
- I can vouch for scarabin. that guy knows his shit.capn_ron

Free rock climbing in Colorado Springs during the summers made me feel like a man when I was younger. Now I amateur circuit race motorcycles (AMA) whenever I can (road racing or flat track dirt), though my favorite being when I entered the drag races on my birthday 4 years ago. I got spanked every race except one but the crowd loved me (for my naivety I think).

I just went fly fishing for the first time on sunday. Was awesome . Might be hooked (badum).
- This is on my short list of things to learn. I was just given a fly rod that was my grandfather's and I'm excited to learn. Glad to hear it's a quick path to fun.melq
- ... to hear it's a short road to fun.melq
- go with someone who has been fishing for a while. worth years of fucking up alone.cannonball1978
- Sound advice. I've been hitting up the old guys for pointers, but am still pretty far away from knowledgeable here.melq
- Follow the 10oclock, 2oclock angles with your rod, a two count for the back cast, two count for the forward cast.cannonball1978
- Cast like you are punching a jab, not like you are swinging a sword. Go from beside your ear and punch forward on the cast.cannonball1978
- Actually catching a fish is all about stalking. Know the right time, what they are feeding on, the water temp, and don't cast a shadowcannonball1978
