S- s- s- s- s-sssooooo c-c-c-cold. No heat still. Using the oven to get some warmth in h-h-here. Slept under some wool blankets, but woke up and felt like I was camping. B-brrrrrr.
- Sorry to hear, Mono...please be careful of carbon monoxide...gas ovens are dangerous.monkeyshine
- gas ovens are the only kind, as far as I know ofmonospaced
- oh.. I guess there are those electric pieces of shit parading as ovensmonospaced
- mono, you're an oven hipster, if you'll decry electricity, you better be using wood. :Dalbums
- I am not a hipster in any waymonospaced
- CygnusZero40
Yeah this is getting ridiculous now. No linemen in sight around here. Im all electric here so no oven to get warmth.
- I'm lucky I have gas. I don't even have to pay for that utility. I can keep the oven on for hours at no charge.monospaced
- And sorry to hear, it must be getting rough. Do you have anywhere to go for the day?monospaced
- Yeah my parents in south nj. Long drive though.CygnusZero4
- Be careful with the oven on man. Is it gas? That shit's dangerous to leave on for heating I think.mg33
- I sometimes roast meat for 4 hrs in the oven and it's not a problem. Why would it be now?monospaced
- And anyway, I have a carbon monoxide detector next to the oven.monospaced

Fuck some progress finally. Theres an army of 8 utility trucks here now.
- CygnusZero40
Haha unreal. None of them are actually working, all just sitting in their trucks. Its 11am, get up in your baskets and do something!
- go out there, get your neighbors riled up, and start an angry mob demanding some work get done!monospaced

Just got an email from a coworker who lives in NYC who has recommended some smaller on the ground orgs who are taking donations. She advises to stay away from the Red Cross because apparently they're an organizational nightmare through this.
Thought I'd pass along for anyone interested:
Some options that I've seen be really active down here:
1) Alliance for Global Justice's grassroots network: https://www.wepay.com/donations/…
2) Brooklyn Community Foundation: http://www.brooklyncommunityfoun…
3) Safe Horizon: https://org2.democracyinaction.o…I can give you more smaller organizations if you're wanting specific groups.
The Mayor's Fund is also a good source for higher level coordination: https://www.nyc.gov/html/fund/ht…
You should also know that, much to my shock and horror, Red Cross has been a complete nightmare down here. :-( You can read how badly they're messing things up here: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/0… The surprising/interesting thing is that the network of folks that connected through Occupy last year are actually some of the best coordinated relief workers right now. It's amazing to see how they're farming out and working across the boroughs checking in on elderly/vulnerable populations and making sure folks have what they need.
- i think when you donate to the red cross, it's for the "next" disaster, not the current one.cbass99

What an insane experience this has been. Still downed trees resting on power lines, roads closed, fist fights for gas...and in my cozy little town my neighbors are helping each other with power cords, chainsaws, food, whatever. It's nice to see the storm bring out some level of humanity.

I'm going to spend this evening helping my building's superintendant clean up the basement floor. He lived down there, and apparently dealt with head-high water and he's alone cleaning up.
- +1nb
- that's nice of you.cbass99

So i heard NY was going to extend the voting deadline, is this happening?
- They should extend it for Obama voters, so he gets more votes.mikotondria3

My parents have been with me since Wednesday morning and just got word that their South Jersey town got power today but anticipate losing it with this new snow storm. My grandmother in North West Jersey is staying with neighbors who have a generator and my aunt and uncle in North Jersey still have no power. Now they're talkin snow - holy shit.
- zaq0
My house is not going to have power until end of the week. Even after that I need to replace heat before I can return home.
