Apple said 2013 for the Pro line.

Thought they were just updated. Here where I work moving forward we're doing 12 cores for the ones doing C4D/Maya, Windows 7 for Max/Vray, 8-cores with graphic card upgrades for AFX, and 27" Imacs for the designers. PC's for the interns. That's the plan anyways.

I have a "new" 12-core.
I've rarely experienced slow down from video, to image to the odd Diablo III / Starcraft II experience at 100% quality.
Word is a redesigned pro-end machine is headed our way in late 2013.
If you're young, patient and lack ambition today, I'd say wait.
Otherwise, order one immediately and get to work; make sure you have a solid-state boot disk.

Yeah new ones in 2013.

I'm never going back to desktops.

if you think Apple will release new Mac Pros you are delusional. There's no money for them in it. Only costs. They have no incentive to make them anymore when they are making hand over fist with iPhone, iPad, Mac Book Air.
- "Consumption > production" - Apple...ideaist
- I guess I'm delusional then.monospaced
- So are all the other high end users who have been and will continue to buy towers.CyBrainX
- all us delusional video guys will use whimpy laptops thenmoldero

mac tower are overpriced... I switched to PC year ago because of this. For 2,200$ i got a system faster than a 5,000$ Mac tower. I wanted to stay with OSX but PC+Windows are half the price for more power.
- mac is overpriced if you compare to pc, no matter the modelMiguex
- that's debatable when you throw in the extras Apple includesmonospaced
- what like? the box?moth
- The software package is nice.monospaced

Last I heard Tim Cook stated new Mac Pro's would be out sometime next year.
In the meantime I've just stuck in a GTX 680 gpu into my 2010 Mac Pro and the difference from the Radeon 5870 is amazing. Much better for Pr / AE and a fraction of the price of a Quadro.

The current ones are garbage the last update was literally because intel no longer made the previous processors they were shipping in them, AVOID. (http://www.marco.org/2012/06/11...
Sounds like they'll be a proper update to make them worth (ish) the money again next year, probably shipping a retina cinema display at the same time and shipping the next processor family from intel.
- although the pro market is still an afterthought for appleanimatedgif

yeah im afraid that the IPads and Iphones are way more profitable for them to care much

I'd be happy with an iMac Pro.

How about just a plain old "Mac," right? They have everything except that, from the mini to the Books to the Pro to the iMac. I imagine it like the mini, but bigger, but not as big and beefy as the Pro. Has that era in personal computing come and gone?

My old computer had a 2.5 GHz processer which I understand.
But what exactly does "Two 2.4GHz 6-Core" mean?
Is that equivalent to 28.8GHz?- not exactly, just more cores to handle more simultaneous processes; some apps can make them work togethermonospaced
- so... makes it 4.8GHz?HAYZ1LLLA
- no, it means you have like... 12 2.4GHz processors that may or may not work together on certain processesmonospaced
- Instead of one employee, this of having 12 who can share in completing a task if/when able.ETM
- They all work at the same speed, rather then combine into something more, like Devastator.ETM
- hmmm.... that didn;t make as much sense as it did in my head.ETM

iMac works for me.
- Clearly you don;t have to do a lot of rendering on larger scales.ETM

Having a sexy pro machine is like a Toyota having the 86 or Lexus having the LFA. It may not make money but it sure helps your brand look sexier.
