After many months of late-night gentleman talks with people in the upper echelons of the television industry over cigars and bourbon in smoky back-rooms, we are proud to announce that we now have our very own TV show on HBO. It will simply be called VICE and will serve as the harbinger of a new age in documentary programming.

they have some good travel guides :p

nice. love their documentaries and vbs.tv. too bad i don't have hbo.
- dbloc0
There will be some raunchy stuff on there for sure.

I'm sure it's going to just like their "guide to travel" or "vice tv online documentaries which are good but kind of boring. They should pitch a TMZ style Do's and Don'ts show. Now that is something i would watch!

i look forward to this

Two brands I respect. I welcome this alignment.

I like Vice because they cover stuff nobody else does in a way that's relavent and interesting to young people, well, young people who are into insane stuff.

Sounds good. Do everyone a favor and lose Shane Smith though. I can't stand the guy. The subject matter is compelling on it's own merits, without having to compete with his disingenuous, self-admiring whatevs guys its only a life-or-death situation routine. He's like williamsburg's answer to bear grylls, let's just hope they suffer the same fate.

Journalism has all but disappeared from the media landscape. So we young people see something like Vice Guide to Travel and think "Holy shit, they're covering what's really going on" but the truth is they aren't really covering anything at all. There's so little content. They can't explain the places they go because they aren't investigating anything. They're just walking around like anyone else would do if they were there.
It's really just a low budget sensationalist travel show.
However, even at it's worst it will still be better than everything else on HBO. Or any news network.

I don't know, don't you think in a lot of ways journalism is actually better than it used to be? A few decades ago you were limited to broadcast news every night on TV, the daily newspaper and magazines which only came out every month. Now you can take your pick of thousands of different broadcasts and publications, all constantly updated.

I think what nb means is that the news media these days resembles less and less what journalism is supposed to be, investigative, impartial, relevant. What Vice does isn't investigative or relevant and just shows off a bunch crazy stuff without context. So most young people out there see it and think this is what journalism is all about and this is what is relevant to the state of the world we live in.
- ... when its just a bunch of sensationalistic, whacky stuffuuuuuu
- e-wo0
I wish Gavin McInnes was still at Vice. That'd make this good news great.
- ukit20
Yeah but cmon...Vice is its own thing and not reflective of the entire state of journalism. If you want serious news, go watch Democracy Now or Al Jazeera or BBC.
I just don't buy the idea that there was this golden age of journalism...when people look back on that earlier era they seem to forget that it was much more limited and one sided than what we have today. My guess is that people are better informed now than they were then.

it's entertainment
- uuuuuu0
yeah its reality entertainment or 'infotainment' as they say... and it gets put on CNN to attract young viewers then subsequently is deemed real journalism.
- it's on HBO not CNNdbloc
- Vvice is on CNN as welluuuuuu
- and this NBO show is basically meant to be like hard hitting documentary when its just travel entertainment with no substanceuuuuuu
- ... substanceuuuuuu
- *HBOuuuuuu
- What qualifies as substance in your book?ukit2
- substance would be discussing the larger context of life in these places not just "hey look at this crazy shit whooeee!"uuuuuu
