how many interns are actually getting a job after an internship in your company? in some companies it is almost internship = job and some of them are changing like 50 of them and not giving a job to anyone, just exploiting people imho...what's your firm's "intern/job ratio"?

zero
free temporary labor
- interns should get paidmonospaced
- 100% agree. They should be paid.hiten

If you see a high-rate of turnaround for interns the likelyhood you'll get a job is slim-to-none because, as you mentioned, they're simply exploiting the relationship. In this scenario it's more about who you know rather than the type of exploitation you're willing to endure at the hands of your employer.
But what's that you say? You're the nephew of Dave from Upper Management? Well, hey, welcome aboard!

Actually its not free. There is overhead of computer, training, operational set up, cost of reallocated resource, extra energy use, etc
- It wouldn't surprise me if some firms charged interns for heat / energy useFax_Benson

if they're rubbish but nice, we extend there internship for as long as they like.

Rare here.
In a roundabout way, that's sorta how I got my position.
Intern>Seasonal>Freelance>Job.

One of the more high-profile digital shops around here is guilty of high-turnaround for interns. When I was in college they were promising "career-defining experiences" and a "chance to work with huge clients"... which really meant working 80+ hrs a week as a slave creating dull content for some lame digital campaign. In what I gather from talking to colleagues, not much has changed. The interns come in, work for 2-3 months and then bail.

We hired our intern. She's a great producer.

We also did at AKQA.

it's not always the case that interns are paid...free labor is also a possibility, that's why I am asking...if a company can get an intern for free at any time, why would they hire anyone and pay him to do that same job...but there are fair companies who hire someone if they like him and fill the position
- are you in high school or something?monospaced
- end of university, but as a part of our studies we have to do a intern...so we can't get paid...loool

I went straight from internship to job.
At my previous workplace (where I did my placement year) lots of the employees in all departments were either interns, work experience or placement students there at some point.

I could have stayed where I interned, but opted to go somewhere which payed more. In retrospect, I should have stayed at the original place because the higher paying job went belly up in 2 years.

well... im currently working where i interned. :)

A guy at my agency was an Intern, and just got hired on full time.

I also went from intern to employee at my first studio, as did the other interns (if they were any good, that is).

Mostly account interns get in – we just set up a copywriter intern with in-house freelance.

a buddy of mine dropped out of school because his internship offered him a full time job as king of the interns at a large firm. that's been 7 years ago - now, he's still holding that same job, with minimal pay increase, while the interns he use to order around have graduated and are now his managers. most of their conversations start out like "hey, remember back when you were my boss? yeah, can you get me a coffee . . . " that really doesn't have anything to do with your intern question, but it always makes me smile.

I've had a few illustration interns that I intended to turn into assistant jobs, but their abilities just weren't where I needed them to be, and they moved on. Interns started out unpaid for a short term, then were paid.
I'd happily pay someone good money to be my assistant, but haven't yet found a good match, skill-wise. I've got way more work than I can handle, but can't find someone who can really help. There are a ton of unskilled people looking for work, sad but true.

unpaid internships can fuck off.
unless it is students working on non-commercial work.

i've always thought that internships where college kids coming in to observe, so they can know what to expect when they go for a job-
and that apprenticeships were more geared towards bringing on someone as a sort of 'trial' employment - less money, but handling smaller tasks.
