Kimble is amazing. He was a legend. His site by Nrg was rad. Kimble running around with machine guns, driving the megacar. then his gumball footage of him driving 200 mph one handed and talking to a camera while weaving in and out of cars. he's bad ass.

been thinking about this. i once had to pay fileserve to get some files. whatever not a big deal. but i was surprised by the incentives they gave me to start uploading content, and be paid for it. I thought taking that approach seemed illegitimate and didn't really dig it. I mean their is sharing but im not too big on encouragement to get more people to feel greedy and try to turn a buck off of it. For me the encouragement is crossing the line. Pirate bay covering costs with ads im ok with. But if they paid people to upload torrents than id be bothered.
Its a very grey area. And maybe i just dont like pimps. Which seems like what companies who pay others to do illicit shit are. But if its just free sharing with no profit motive besides covering costs and making a reasonable living keeping that pipeline open i think its fair. I think info should be free for those capable of getting it freely. You pay for your internet, your storage, their is no loss only a make believe potential loss. The greed aspect of it is too obvious and shady to pay people to upload stuff. But that can be said about content houses and blogs and shit.
Im still on the fence. Its a sketchy line.
But im definitely not happy about the approach the gov took. The precedences it sets and all that. Its just way to dangerous.

What I don't like is the gov doesn't clearly state what is legal/illegal.
It's not illegal to start a file upload service. It shouldn't be illegal to run an affiliate program for that service either.
If there is copyright material, they should take it down when asked. But as far as I know, that's the only requirement for a site like this.
May be that they committed some other illegal actions. But government should make it clear what is/isn't allowed so people can run their business without having to fear getting shut down.

It's also kind of dick move for all the people that bought subscriptions to that site or hosted their legitimate files there. All that data is now gone forever...
And Kanye told me it was OK!

lord i feel behind the times....it wasn't that long ago i was actually wondering whatever happened to that Kimble dude....was reading up on him on wikipedia etc....i think i'd remembered some of his sites from back in the day...a few of which were (at the time) pretty interesting design wise....but the sheer ego was hilarious and awesome...sites like Kimvestor ....always wondered what became of him....
i had NO idea he was the dude behind Megaupload....that blows my mind....
and the idea that anon is taking shit down as a retaliation of this?... i guess i can understand that a bit...but on the other hand, i'd always assumed that most actual 'hackers' or ..well....folks smart enough about IT development/security to know 'how' to hack would think that Kimbal dude was a complete wanker and poser.- Yeh, I always thought MegaUpload was dodgy as fuck. And taking the piss. I thought they couldn't be touched, tho.mikotondria3
