its 330am, i am supposed to go back to work tomorrow (be at my desk in 5.5hrs) after 3 weeks off, i am a freelancer with no written contract at the place i am at currently, i have savings enough to last me 7 months if needed and i really just want to take another month or so off, should i just call them tomorrow (even though they think im actually coming in) and explain to them my situation and basically say im not coming back? i just need to do my own thing for a while. am i crazy?

Not making decisions at 3:30 am is probably a good idea.

don't leave suddenly. Go to work ,talk to the boss, and give them a break so they can find your replacement. "Never burn the
bridge"

Do you ever want to work with them again or is this like a "fuck it, I'm out" situation? You might want to follow through so you can ensure future work and good word-of-mouth.
- just checked linked in - yup lots of offers still coming in, i dont know if i care about this bridge thingsleepless

why do you guys have to be so sensible. lol. no i appreciate the thoughts all good input. i dont really care if i work with them again or not - good people and all that, i just want to live the freelance life and its really become a bit of a fulltime job there ie reviews and all that which is exactly why i left my fulltime place a while ago. i think im having a bad case of insomnia and im dreading the thought of having to be at my desk in 5hrs FUCK

If you're in an environment where you can't bare another few weeks, then yeah, maybe just leave.
If it's not that bad then don't burn the bridge. Tender resignation tomorrow and say you'll continue working until they find a replacement, or for a month, whichever comes first. Something like that.
If you fuck them over and it ends on bad terms, then you may well shoot yourself in the foot for a bit longer. It's unprofessional to leave like that and make you less attractive to other employers.

what if i call them tomorrow (today) and tell them im done but could get them an excellent replacement stat? is that anywhere near kosher?

A month off is a good idea, you should do it for sure.
Just don't leave them hanging. You made a commitment, now you should honour it. At least go in, then gauge how much work they actually have for you before telling them you're taking a hiatus.

Tell them you'll finish the week.

awesome, i get the general concensus here, thanks for all your opinions - i will give you guys an update tomorrow on what i did, i am going to go and 'sleep on it' for now (i dont imagine waking up in 4.5hrs is going to help how i feel about going in)

such a little douche whinny little prick. go to work, its your obligation–you have given the intent to work today/tomorrow, so do it. You can go in face to face (like a man) and tell them this is your last day or give an extended amount of notice-it's up to you. But dude come on stop the whinny little baby-"I don't want to go to work. I'm so above this and sick of it all." SMH

Use these situations where you don't care about the outcome to learn a little bit about negotiation.
Instead of not showing up, show up, ask your boss if you can talk, and lay out how you feel and exactly what it will take for you to stay.
When he says no then lay out the conditions you need to have to stay 2 weeks, 4 weeks, etc.
Learn the game and win in the future.
- Sounds like he just wants to leave though. No need for negotiation.fyoucher1

hi, this is your boss, don't come in. stay away.

Definitely don't do what you said you're going to do unless you're actually 'trying' to burn bridges and screw this company over. Especially since you're talking about freelancing. Everyone knows someone. Not having a contract doesn't really mean anything here. This is your rep we're talking about. Give them some kind of decent notice like 2 weeks at the very least and find your replacement. If you don't find a replacement, give them a month notice. I know I'd be pissed if a worker of mine just left like that.

best advice i have is make a pass at your boss..
if it works, you get laid, if not, you dont have to worry about telling them you are quitting..
