No doubt this is a big success for them in terms of column inches generated because of it's 'controversial' nature. And yes there's supposedly a genuine heartfelt message behind this. Yet I find them funny and disposable more than anything else.

I read the thread title as 'Urinate by Benetton'
I'm months overdue for my eye test. I think I should book in for the weekend.

No doubt that it is good advertising.
Every newspaper in the world is talking about it.
Everyone understands that sort of image, all over the world.
It's a bit adbuster-ish, but I must recognize that it works.

Problem with this campaign is the fact Benetton pulled the Pope/Imam execution because the Vatican got its nose out of joint. That pretty much does for Benetton's and this campaign's credibility right there, as far as I'm concerned, if they're that quick to kiss arse at the slightest complaint.

Benetton hasn't been relevant since the early 90's. So now they come back with this pretentious horseshit? You know they were all salivating at the timing of OWS and all.

It's really funny that the pontifex maximus got his knickers in a bunch over this, but Islam didn't (that we know of). I suppose if it'd been a shot of a rabbi snogging an imam, then the shit would have really hit the fan.

it may seem like shock for the sake of shock, but in an era of gay marriage the image really is not that shocking.
also, with the increasing homophobia in the world, the message is as relevant as ever.

"Benneton - A manufacturer of men's, women's, and children's casual wear, footwear and accessories."
Pretty much cuts the teeth out of this idea from the start. No matter what they say, they're still just selling handbags.
- haha you could say that about any ad campaign, reallyjon_d
- unless they are selling something other than handbags, Jon_drefunktion

a curious amount of criticism for this campaign, scrutiny is no doubt worthwhile, but let's not lose sight of the fact that we work in an industry that churns out nothing but apolitical bullshit.
At least theyre willing to risk something, can't say that for 99% of the ad agencies out there.

"At least theyre willing to risk something, can't say that for 99% of the ad agencies out there."
In this day and age an advert like that isnt a RISK!
Back in the 80s yes. Today nope.- Where's the world heading?
Mike Judge wasn't too off in his vision, was he:
