Gladwell's Outliers: Timing is Almost Everything
The new book offers Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs and Microsoft founder Bill Gates as an example of how a lucky birthdate, among other things, portends success.
Coincidence? Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen was born in 1953, Apple (AAPL) founder Steve Jobs in 1955, and Sun Microsystems (SUNW) founders Bill Joy and Scott McNealy in 1954. All of these Silicon Valley pioneers succeeded not just on their extraordinary talent but also because they had the right opportunities at exactly the right time.

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do, If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on."

Great. So this spawned a huge argument between a coworker and me. He thinks Macs are shit, overpriced, copied from Xerox and Linux, and has more respect for Steve Jobs and what he did with Dreamworks than what he did with Apple.
- "Dreamworks" lolanimatedgif
- in real life, i've found fanboys to be a rare thing. rather the world seems to be full of apathetic hipster/hater types.inteliboy
- that he is indeed. it's hilarious to listen to him spout this bullshit about their computers being "underpowered."mg33
- i hope your co-work is a programer and not a designer. (for his own good).akrok
- oh, he is a designer actually! and he manages our design traffic among their team.mg33
- I quote him: "iPads are the most underpowered tablet out there."mg33
- and this "my Android phone is more powerful than any of the iPads, I researched it."mg33
- he goes on and on about "underpowered" for all their products, and says that benchmark tests don't mean shit.mg33
- lol.akrok
- what kinda car does he have?akrok
- like a late 90s Accord.mg33
- and a big assed humongo case PC for 3D work that he doesn't even do. It's a veritable porn kiosk.mg33
- I think I'm gonna walk over to his desk and fight him.mg33
- LOL! honda accord. yes. he has no taste for design.akrok
- he can't even respect them for such great industrial design that beats almost all rival products...mg33
- call him "mr. value".akrok
- LOL - this just in: "Put a $3K PC and a $3K Mac against each other and tell me which one will run Photoshop better."mg33
- dude, we charge the client per hour.akrok
- if the client knew about your $3k super fast peecee. then it would be done in 5 mins.akrok
- Probably run photoshop about the same, the bottlenecks in that program are no longer computer relatedanimatedgif
