dpreview says the Illum has 40 megarays of angular resolution, providing output of about 5 megapixels of spatial (or two-dimensional) resolution.
also check the gallery, it allows to slightly change point of view in the images:

H C-B wouldn't (or any other photographer worth their salt for that matter).Anyone who is any good knows how to get what they want first off — as ever; in photography or anything else.
Seems interesting tech, but kind of geeky. In terms of photography it adds next to nothing. Being able to un-mess up an OOF snapshot or shift the viewpoint a few inches? hmmmm...so what
Which might be why they decided to pitch it at the consumer level — seems a bit of a lo-res, lo-quality, snapshot-friendly tool/gimmick.

1200x835 as the highest image setting?? it's already wheeled itself out of existence at a $1,599 price tag.
get real. but not real good.

i'm curious to see how the sharpness, contrast, and bokeh works itself out after a few builds.

"In terms of photography it adds next to nothing."
What? This is a game changer and will eventually be part of every camera and photographers tool kit.

shitty product that will produce obsolete files for future.
NO. THANKS

Simon should get one if you know what I mean ;)

A few more versions away from being very decent.
I don't see saving a good picture as a gimmick, I took a bunch of pics at the weekend and threw a bunch out that were blurred because of my focusing.
If they could get it under $1000 and fix some of the obvious issues then I would buy one.

This camera does look interesting now there are more details / images available. Hard to tell print quality and I guess with infinite options of what the image can be comes indecision?

I kind of dig the sardonic tone they employ..
“This year, Lytro will debut the first light field camera for everyone. OK – you’re not everyone. You are a beautiful, unique snowflake”.

same tech?
http://www.qbn.com/topics/642074…- AH! That's the one, I was racking my stupid brain for that tech. Thanks! (which is to say—I'd expect it is this tech)detritus

every pictures in their gallery looks like shitty video grabs...

Why not just take a sharp photo, and use a blur effect in photoshop on the areas you want blurred?
- orpkoobcam20
this tech will only be big and successful if the porn industry take it up. just look at beta vs. vhs / blur-ray vs hd-dvd....
