A few more versions away from being very decent.
I don't see saving a good picture as a gimmick, I took a bunch of pics at the weekend and threw a bunch out that were blurred because of my focusing.
If they could get it under $1000 and fix some of the obvious issues then I would buy one.

Simon should get one if you know what I mean ;)

1200x835 as the highest image setting?? it's already wheeled itself out of existence at a $1,599 price tag.

dpreview says the Illum has 40 megarays of angular resolution, providing output of about 5 megapixels of spatial (or two-dimensional) resolution.
also check the gallery, it allows to slightly change point of view in the images:

It's actually super cool in a tumblr experience. I wouldn't mind giving it to a designer to shoot at a concert for a project, then show the client. I can see it having a use in the future. It is a different experience than pro slr work though.

This camera does look interesting now there are more details / images available. Hard to tell print quality and I guess with infinite options of what the image can be comes indecision?

from a technological perspective, it almost looks as though they're doing with dof what they're doing with exposure in hdr. capturing a range of depth, as opposed to a range of exposure.
question for all you photographers out there. is there something on modern slr's that's similar to exposure bracketing, but for aperture?

The founders dissertation is good:

this tech will only be big and successful if the porn industry take it up. just look at beta vs. vhs / blur-ray vs hd-dvd....
