zissou doesn't feel like answering but maybe someone could expand on why or why not this would be worth the 300 clams? is it so barebones that it will also require an additional 300 clam purchase of pricey codecs and extras? it looks pretty a-ok to me for the $...
- and hence, one would be the wiser to simply purchase the king kong version when available?prophetone

at least is 64bit now...

not in my own words:
The main issues for most pro editors now: no support for any tape based capture, no third-party hardware support, and no third-party codec support. That means that you cannot send or receive an EDL or XML file for online editing or finishing.

"These are the available direct output options for Final Cut Pro 10, Note that Blu-ray is finally an option for mac users, and that the Export Movie Option offers all flavors of ProRes, DVCProHD and 2 Versions of Sony's XDCam Codec, and the Export Image Sequence offers output of DPX or Open EXR format frames using the libraries for Shake."
- team_zissou0
"There is no support for any of the RAW camera formats or frame based workflows like DPX or Tiff working with this release. Workarounds for higher end cameras include using the QT reference files with R3D media, and just importing ProRes from the ARRI Alexa. However in both of these cases much of the camera metadata is ignored."

"Apple is keenly aware that FCP X is not ready for professional editing out of the gate. I have been assured both privately and publicly that support for third-party tools by AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox and others will be implemented, but how soon? I know for a fact that many of the FCP developers were all but avoided at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) in early June.

iMovie was having trouble recognizing AVCHD shit from a camcorder, so I downloaded FinalCut Express and was blown away by what an intolerable pile of shit UI it had compared to iMovie's. iMovie is fucking amazing. I got the AVCHD crap to work with iMovie and thank fuck.
And they released this FCP X today? What a coincidence. The UI is probably top notch too. I remember editing with old premiere, it was a disaster. Looking at Premiere CS 5.5 it's still a disaster. Wouldn't touch that shit. And if it's your job to use Premiere instead of FCP X, kill yourself and wait to be reincarnated to get a job using FCP XXX.

I was really pumped for this new version, but after seeing alot of what's missing, my pumping has gone flat.
