Sore neck and between shoulder blades in no time at all working like that.
Not to mention the amount of hum and glow your body is absorbing being surrounded by that many LCD's and plasma's etc.
Also, in case no one else mentions it, you look like an excessive wanker with all that gear.

we're renovating our office at the moment and was considering replacing all the desks with standing work stations. spoke to a few architects/office designers on this one. problem is that finding a good chair at that height is expensive, also if you sit and don't have your feet flat this can cause pressure on the legs.
if you're in and out of meetings all day this could work, but if you're a mac monkey, i was advised against it. pneumatic desks are the way to go.
- plus would you not just be hunched over the whole time?Juanmonk

I did it for a few months, was nice for a while, finally went back to sitting. I've thought about getting a desk that can easily be raised up and vice versa for switching it about.

^ Definitely need to opt for the chairs. It's not exactly fair to push standing workstations on people who don't want to do it themselves.

I guarantee that after a while standing will be killing you and you'll want to sit down.
- That's why it's good to have a pneumatic adjustable, and mix it up throughout the day.Continuity

HEY, YOU over there,
NO SITTING HERE!!

I'd rather die 15 years early than spend the next 25 stood up.

Well you don't really stand non-stop.. it's about being mobile, less hunched over for 12-15 hours a day when coding.
You sit on a bar stool and work.. Something like Starbucks when you sit on those tall tables.
Just takes getting used to. My legs hurt like hell right now because I've been so used to sitting all day but I have to say that when they don't hurt I feel much better standing up and working.
But after a week I expect it to be much better.
The guy from 37 signals did it a while back as this trend has been picking for a few years now.
Btw, let's go.. post some good mid-priced adjustable standing desks or workstations.
- yep i can see it working for short periods of timefadein11

My set-up:
I use the laptop at left for browsing, email, conference calls, writing, etc. Then sit at the main workstation for design/development tasks. Works really well, but is custom-built for my height.
It is so nice not having to sit for hours on end, but also having the luxury to sit whenever I care to.

I picked up one of these a few years ago. Cost me about $400 used, versus $2200 new, but it would probably be a decent fit.. most likely a bit too deep but it raises and tilts using the modern power of electricity. I got it to do some illustrations and whatnot but I've always wondered about turning it into a desk that raises and lowers.

The Steelcase one (AirTouch) you originally posted is the one I want. They sell it on Steelcase for $1500 but if you go through a retailer, they'll sell it for $1000 for some reason, a lot cheaper.
