Standing workstations

Sitting was killing me. I'm re-building my office to more efficient as well as healthier standing workstations.
IKEA has some great stuff (table tops, adjustable legs, bar stools to rest) and I'm switching to working standing up. My whole office (and I think people know what my office looks like from workstation thread) to be replaced with new office stuff costs around $400. This is not that bad at all.
I swear to god I think I would have died if I continued working as much as I do and sitting down this much.
I'll say, been working for a few days on improvised standing workstation (I lifted my monitors and keyboard and everything up so I can stand and work) and though you get tired after a while, I can already sense that I'm thinking much more clearly. I'm more mobile because you can just walk away from the computer instead of sitting and hating to get up.
I'm sure I'll get used to it soon as far as getting tired but I think bar stool will solve those problems too.
Does anyone else work standing up? Post your photos of the workspace here if you do.

I've been thinking of transitioning to a standing desk for a long time. Anyone with good desk post links?

I worked in a place that had desks you could adjust from normal sitting height to standing height, by way of a switch on the edge of the desk; I have to say, sometimes I'd jack it all the way up and stand for half an hour or so, and it really does help.

I had a standing workstation at Amazon and the trick is to have a stool. While it's preferable to have a standing desk fatigue sets in and you need a stool. It's more about mobility than standing or sitting.

nah.. nothing pneumatic.. it's waaaay to expensive for what I need..
I already spent a lot of money for desks and setup I have now so I just wanted to see what I could do to make it usable but as cheap as possible..so I ended up with a solution that is ideal..
everything cost me $100 and if I get tired.. I'll just take out all the table extensions and lower everything down to the sitting level.. but I don't think I will..
Here's how it ended up..
Not as nice as it would have been with Ikea or GeekDesk or whatever but I also wouldn't have flexibility I have now. I use the middle level to have NAS devices, routers and other shit and just keep the working area monitors and keyboard/mouse and so on.
It worked out great for me.

I'm going to have a standing workstation when I get into my new hosue. I've been dying to have a standing setup for some time now. Can't wait until I get to put it into practice.

Mice and keyboards are way too high, you're just moving the strain from the lumber of your back to the upper back.

Sore neck and between shoulder blades in no time at all working like that.
Not to mention the amount of hum and glow your body is absorbing being surrounded by that many LCD's and plasma's etc.
Also, in case no one else mentions it, you look like an excessive wanker with all that gear.

we're renovating our office at the moment and was considering replacing all the desks with standing work stations. spoke to a few architects/office designers on this one. problem is that finding a good chair at that height is expensive, also if you sit and don't have your feet flat this can cause pressure on the legs.
if you're in and out of meetings all day this could work, but if you're a mac monkey, i was advised against it. pneumatic desks are the way to go.
- plus would you not just be hunched over the whole time?Juanmonk

^ Definitely need to opt for the chairs. It's not exactly fair to push standing workstations on people who don't want to do it themselves.

I guarantee that after a while standing will be killing you and you'll want to sit down.
- That's why it's good to have a pneumatic adjustable, and mix it up throughout the day.Continuity
