do you guys use your screen at full brightness when the machine is plugged in?
I usually use an eye calibrated profile in system settings and I'm wondering if I should calibrate it with the display at 100%...

As I recall, you had to up the contrast and brightness and then calibrate it with the dongle. Are we talking about the dongle? Dongle.

no I usually I just use the built in calibration in System Settings... not using any hardware

Heh, to think that a monitor could 'calibrate' itself is sort of funny.
If you're just doing web-based output, just use the default Mac profile and make sure brightness is 100%.
If you're doing print-based use a calibration device. It will get you color closer that matches 4CP/Spot color out. But really, don't rely on what you see on screen for print.

d_rek I understand what you are saying...
I guess what I meant was I usually need to use the System Settings Advanced calibration to set up external monitors. I find that setting the color temp. to d50 and sometimes reducing the screen brightness as low as 50% out of the box helps a lot. Most monitors come out of the box with the brightness/sharpness jacked all the way up to impress the consumer- too much detail is lost.
This is my first notebook and I'm wondering how the process compares to setting up an external monitor.
I don't expect colors to be accurate at all
