What I read "customers have choices for broadband and can go where the features are what they want" so, no point in limiting what telcos can do/charge.

The Republican Party are the supreme masters of convincing people to vote against their principles.
Net Neutrality is all about freedom, fairness, equality, etc. Net Neutrality is American values in practice on the internet. Net Neutrality is the free market. Net Neutrality fosters growth and competition.
Republicans should be noted for the remarkable ability to convince people of the exact opposite of what is going on.

Hope they enjoy their freedom as Comcast and Verizon throttles their internet traffic and blocks sites they don't like.

its going to be great when they think they've won and all of a sudden people start making their own p2p internet that doesnt require anything but a wireless router and IP's. Im interested to see what they do then.
They have no idea what they are about to get into. they think they see dollar signs disguised as public safety or some other made up issue, but what they are really going to get is a war. The guys that made the internet are way smarter than the companies that provide the service to view it.
Thats all i have to say.

Ukit, are you talking about p2p internet, or the fact that they could pass a bill like the one presented?
Either way, both arent far off. Some of us already have p2p servers set up that dont require 'internet providers' to transmit files, data, and web pages. Think darknet.If they pass a bill making ISP's able to control/regulate the internet, dont you think people will get fed up and look to other solutions?
** Look at cable. Record numbers of people are cutting the cord on cable packages and getting internet packages. Now, dont you think companies like Comcast, (who's clients include CBS, ABC, etc on cable tv) already are aware that the movement is toward the internet?
And when sites like Hulu and apps on things like Roku start to offer content for free, dont you think they'll realize the only way to continue to make money is to control the internet and its content? cmon.- Think about cable tv. you want news? you have 5 channels to pick from, all of which are american owned and paid for. Yeah I agree that this is what Comcast/Verizon/AT&T want. They were the ones bringing the lawsuit, and they won in court today. Net neutrality is dead now thanks to this ruling - no legislation required.
P2P internet...haven't heard much about that. Is it something that is feasible on a wide scale or just an idea at this point?

Not that my analogies are ever spot on, but this amounts to "do as i say when you're in my house". Though an individual may have certain unalienable rights within a system, that doesn't stop anyone from making their own "house rules". This is nothing short of that.

What sucks about this is that Republican / right wing / conservatives who define their lives by hating Obama will collectively praise this because they are a) too ignorant to know how it affects them, and b) it's another great example of someone putting the stop on something Obama wants.

albums the problem is that when you follow that analogy to its conclusion it enables corporations to do whatever they want.
Product safety laws? Sorry, that's the domain of my private corporation. Child labor? Putting toxic chemicals in food? etc
Ultimately these companies are operating technology on land that was developed and built with public tax dollars. If they are going to abuse their power, they should be nationalized and broken up just like AT&T was back in the 80s. Or at the very least forced to obey the simple principle of treating all traffic the same.
