I ended buying this bike.
I delayed the purchase so long specially because the father of my partner was very sick and died short after Xmas that I forgot about Brexit and that after the 1st of January one had to pay customs...
I'm very happy, it's my first brand new bike since I'm an adult.
I will use it as a commuter when I need to take my little one in the child trailer tot the market, to the Kindergarten and for tours.
I'm building a bike for other occasions like when i need to leave at the railway station and plan to repair my fixed gear this Spring.
- I ended up buying this bike...oey_oey
- nice!brt44
- I will acquire a hub dynamo to replace the front hub for light and had to pimp it up a bit for safety and transport reasons. would love to strip it naked thoughoey_oey
- Looks great! Somehow, I don't really know what I need. I have no kids and actually will rather use a backpack. I just ordered mudguards to mount on my old bike.SimonFFM
- Sorry about your father in law.SimonFFM
- Thanks Simon, I t was pretty fast as he was avoiding taking care of symptoms for a year. Cancer.oey_oey
- Diagnosed and gone in two months. Well he really didn't care somehow and then it was too late.oey_oey
- Back to bikes,I f you have some hills to bike in the city or small tours just get a bike with 8 gears.oey_oey
- If you an still use yours and take some time to make a research cn on which bike that's also okay.oey_oey
- But mind you that at least in Germany bike prices go up in Spring. And there's lots of sold out models...oey_oey
- ...because people bought bikes like crazy during the pandemic.oey_oey
- If y o u have an old bike that you can use mostly but then want a better one for some t in more that's also a good option.oey_oey
- I have a trekking bike which is 12 years old. It's ok, just thought, I could use a new one. A bit out of boredom and because it's nice. Not needing a new one.SimonFFM

Thinking about getting a new bike. I saw this one:
But then again, I question, is this a bike for me?
I cycle to the market and around the town, cruise around. Would like mudguards, so I can cycle to the gym even in light rain without getting dirty. Light is handy, too.
I am more of a minimalist guy. Would a fixie be better for me? Single speed, light-weight. But what about the mudguards.
It's so hard to decide that I might just stick to my old bike. Damn.
- You can put mudguards on any bike. For the market and gym you can get a rack with panniers. For minimal maintenance get an internal hub.palimpsest
- depends, if you want to have a commuter bike but sometimes pedal outside the city and with some friends I wouldn't buy a fixed gear.oey_oey
- Get the most dorky looking bicycle. So it's not attractive to thieves.shapesalad
- disc brakes are really nice but do you need them? the big question would be if you need gears. like a hub gear system like nexus can be practical.oey_oey
- Single speed = big no.shapesalad
- https://www.halfords…shapesalad
- It has 8 gears. It's this one: https://www.schindel…SimonFFM
- The halfords looks good. I am location in Germany though.SimonFFM
- It's not really my type but I have to say that it has good parts and seems like a good practical city bike.oey_oey
- Price went up 150 EUR from yesterday to today. Suckers. Makes me less wanting one.SimonFFM
- keep us posted on the mudguards situation!Krassy
- I still ride fixed gear, I have a chill ratio as I rarely go over 20kms in and around city. Super smooth, front brake only to help with stop and start traffic.slappy

/\ lol. With ebikes, these days almost anything can be considered a bike.
Got out today for a Boxing Day ride and bumped into a cat 4 climb.

a little bit of old news:
A designer (now a good friend) who's first job out of school was with my old studio was the lead designer on the Specialized Aethos series of bikes. So nice to see minimalist design coming out of the big companies for a change.

Finally got my bikes to a place where I'm legit happy with them, and that I felt I needed to get on the books with my homeowners insurance policy...
↑ Felt FR30 (2018/19) – Shimano 105 R7000, Easton Cockpit, HED Ardennes Black Wheels
↑ Foundry Harrow (2015) – SRAM Force 1, Zipp Handlebar & Stem, Thomson Seatpost, HED Ardennes RA Disc Wheels
↑ Capricorn Rust (2014) – SRAM Force 1 / Rival 1, Whisky Cockpit, HED Ardennes RA Rim Wheels- This Foundry!! A beauty!OBBTKN
- Will share my bikes, somedayOBBTKN
- And... you're a tall guy mateOBBTKN
- Got lucky finding the Foundry! It was just a frameset, and this is the second full build I've done with it. Absolute love this bike!skwiotsmith
- Also, it's funny, I'm only 6' 2" but for whatever reason, I ride between a 59 & 61cm (tho the Capricorn is ~63cm). And they all fit perfectly.skwiotsmith
- I'm a bit taller, and using 58 and 60... 63 is a bit much yo!OBBTKN
- Yeah, it's funny cos you think that 63 would be massive, but it's kinda perfect. I've got over 7k miles on it and nary a complaint about fit!skwiotsmith
- Some Minneapolis love there. Nice.ben_
- I don't know many of the words being used here but that last one looks a few decades older than 2014.CyBrainX

I'm craving a gravel bike badly these days because I hardly ride my road bike (Specialized Allez) anymore. I've not been on it once this year.
We have a 50 mile gravel trail that starts just two miles from my house, through woods and forest preserves and prairies and I'd love to get over there, especially when fall arrives.
Can't afford one right now but keeping an eye on the 2021 Specialized Diverge models. I love the looks of the Base Carbon model from 2020.
- How rough is the gravel? I hit crushed limestone trails all the time on my road bike (with 28's).section_014
- Forest rides are the best, get a cheap(ish) second hand bike or sell the Allez and go all in? I sold my roady and haven't missed it, riding trails is more fun.slappy
- I cashed in my road bike for a gravel bike and two wheel sets, couldn’t be happier.ben_

Looking at the Cervelo Aspero for Road/Gravel ( Black and gold OR black and red?):
https://www.cervelo.com/en/asper…
...how many of you have more than 1 bike AND your wives/boyfriends/lovers are okay with it?!
: )
- I used to have 3, I don't mountain bike anymore so down to 1 but never had an issue with the gf, lucky me I guess!zarkonite
- That's a nice bike, get the gold!zarkonite
- Currently have 4, one is at work though in the city, so won't be seeing that one til next year I recon. All different builds. I think 5 is a good number.slappy
- I’d go with the gold too. I’ve got 3, my wife has two and our daughter has a balance bike. Everyone’s happy.ben_
- Gold too, nice bike! I've got 4, (2 for road, 1 old for the roller and a mtb) wife is happyOBBTKN
- If you're after more of an "all roader" as opposed to a more gravel specific setup, Cervelo just released the Caledonia.skwiotsmith
- It's the middle ground between the Aspero & the R5. I'm particularly interested in the Caledonia 5...haven't had a chance to test ride one yet tho...skwiotsmith

Just finished building a dirt jumper, for riding pump tracks and dirt jumps with my son (10). It's so fun, reminds me of riding BMX but easier on the arms.
- FUN. My friend's kids got into BMX a few years ago (they were like 5 & 7 at the time) and they are ripping now.ben_
- The older one is on more of a proper dirtjumper too.ben_
- We are in hard lockdown and exercise is one of the few reasons we are allowed to leave the house, work, build, ride until Christmas.slappy

The 4th out of 9 bikes I've ever owned in my life was stolen in front of my apartment this week. I had it just shy of a year. I'm not sure if anyone knows but the bike industry has been hit so hard by the pandemic that it's nearly hard to find anything in stock. They shop across the street from me said he didn't even have anything used for sale. So, I put my name on a waiting list for the same model I had before. It's a Specialized Crossroads 1. I was too spoiled by the first one I had. It's perfect for my daily riding and commuting (pre-virus) in Lower Manhattan. I'm getting the same model in red this time because that's what was available.
It's $500 but I'm going to have to add fenders, a locking system for the wheels and seat and a Kryptonite chain.
- If by “hit hard” you mean having an incredible season and selling out of everything...ben_
- At least here in canada, bike shops are having one of the best years in history. And nice commuter, first designer I ever hired is now the lead s-works designerben_
- ^ can he get Cy a bike?Gnash
- Did you buy it from Sids, NY?MrAbominable
- I ordered from Specialized. They're shipping it to the bike shop across the street. I'm having the shop add fenders and a locking system for the wheels and seatCyBrainX
- Lol, don’t think I can hook that up, CY sorryben_
- I'm surprised they had anything in stock ever from their direct sales. congrats. and happy riding!MrAbominable
- just a quick reminder that locks and chains only make your bike harder to steal. everything is take-able in a big city. Including saddles.MrAbominable
- ben_5
Got the gravel bike mostly done tonight. Had to wait on a brake line to come in as the one they shipped with was comically short. Took it on a little 40k rip today to get it dialled. Will be swapping out the seatpost, stem and saddle when they finally get over the border. Love this thing already.
- Unlikely anyone cares but yes they are 650b with 48c tires. Getting a 700/35c wheelset going for road-ish commutes.ben_
- She's a beauty! EnjoyOBBTKN
- Looking good!deadsperm
- Nice!calculator
- If any of you are towing kids, Robert Axle Project makes the best thru axle for trailers. It’s maybe the best part of the bike, lol.ben_
- Looks great. Don't let it get stolen...Longcopylover
- Honestly I rarely if ever leave my bikes outside. But yeah, fuck a bike thief.ben_
- Oh, damn! Sweeeet ride. How's that steel frame with carbon fork working out? What handlebars did you throw on there?nocomply
- So far I like it. Straight steer, plus tubeless also takes some chatter out. There’s a chance I may swap the fork for something I can put a proper front rack onben_
- So if I do that, it’ll be steel for sure. The bars are ritchey adventuremax 44’s in alloy. If I’d have gone di2 I would have sprung for carbon.ben_
- I’m planning a very long trip for next year, so going electronic seemed like a bad idea in the long run, but the di2 stuff is magicben_
- This is sick, gravel bike is next on my list, probably won't be this nice though.slappy
- It's a great addition, glad I did it finally. We have perfect conditions for this type of riding where I live.ben_
