Then there is the subject of the UK having stupid amounts of coal ready to burn for good energy. But do we use it? No. We buy oil from other countries. Why? You tell me.
- The combustion of coal contributes the most to acid rain and air pollutionernexbcn
- yeah, coal is pretty bad.akrok
- and it costs too much to get it out of the groundrupedixon
- because we killed the mining industry here remember, and it's way more dirty than nuclearanimatedgif

The way wind turbines make 'energy', at least in the UK is through subsidies. They farm them to collect money from the government.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth…"The total RO paid to the wind industry last year was £400 million. So each of Britain’s wind turbines earned, on average, £138,000 in subsidy last year [...] Add in the profits from selling the electricity they generate and after construction costs are cleared, you will be making nearly £300,000 per year per turbine, half of it courtesy of the Government. "

- "Clean energies" until now, have been money swallowing alternatives to oil. I can talk to you about Spain´s experiences...OBBTKN
- experiences, but probably you know them allOBBTKN

im surprised people don't know about this
- what happened with this? I saw the episode, but it died out. Never heard an update on it.HijoDMaite
- I thought this was promising. May be "someone" shut them down.kgvs72
- People who buy boxes to make their energy use self sufficient are taken off the grid by energy co'sGucci
- And strange as it may sound, energy co's have the power to buy the box for $1.Gucci
- I heard some guy who knows his shit talk about it for what felt like forever. fascinating stuff.Gucci
- Posted this on first page...apparently you just did a prettier job of itformed

it's nuclear to finish the nuclear.

raf - just so you know.
fossil fuel subsidies far outstrip subsidies for renewables -
The IEA highlighted that in 2008 global subsidies for fossil fuels topped "$557 bn in 2008."
http://www.iea.org/files/energy_…
a nuclear power station has never been built in the UK without public subsidies.
the private sector have so far refused to take the risk.

Nuclear energy seems stupid when there are so many safer, more cost effective, hazard free and waste free alternatives.
I can't wait to see ocean wave energy as a common source:
- renewable, zero-emission
- produces fresh water directly from seawater
- buoys are submerged on the ocean floor, no aesthetic impact
- attract marine life
- minimal structural materials required
- contains no oils, lubricants, or offshore electrical components
- ratio of electrical generation to fresh water production can be quickly varied from 100% to 0% allowing for rapid variations in power demand.
- no transmission issues as 60% of the world live within 60km of a coast
- water is approx 800 times denser than air, the energy density of waves vastly exceeds that of wind
- Waves are predictable days in advance making it easy to match supply and demand
- no destroying the environment by mining for fuel sourceAnd if there is an Earthquake the worst that would probably happen is that some pipes may get damaged, not explosions and radiation pollution of the whole earth!
Why do people support Nuclear Power and uranium mining when they can support companies like this one:

I heard IF you get the right dose of radiation at the right time,
it gives you super human powers

makes me think if spiderman got his superpowers from a bite of a spider. what would happen if spiderman bit someone else. wouldn't they contract his superpowers as well?

Germany is rethinking its nuclear plant strategy. They temporarily shut down seven of its nuclear power plants:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/busine…Also in Switzerland the Japan disaster caused politics to rethink nuclear plant plans. All plans for building a new nuclear plant in Switzerland have been cancelled atm.
- pandering to the hysteria, they didn't have problems with those reactors last weekanimatedgif

Power isn't a free meal.
Nuclear is still best.
Go ahead and power one neighborhood with a huge wave energy machine that doesn't even exist.
7 people have died because of nuclear accidents (not including the few thousand who lived near chernobyl who died of cancer years later). Coal? Try 100,000+ since it's inception.

As green as I am, that WavePower post above is borderline hyperbole.detritus - shhhhhhhtt
georgesIII - It exists and it worksali

This whole ordeal is a call for everyone to seriously investigate and develop alternatives.
