Wish there was higher quality video.
- it'd be amazing to see the whole movie just like this._niko
- I'd imagine there is tons of rotoscoping done here especially with the movement, the angles, the perspective etc_niko
- ^ I'd say not. just lots of work.shapesalad
- would love to see the whole movie like thisshapesalad

An Alternative Soundtrack for Akira – Mixed by 主な戦闘 LORD TUSK

- Asian though - worried it be changed to Asian not Japanese. no insult there but the books/film are very cultural. Its sort of like Keana Reeves in Dracula!mugwart
- It'll be interesting to see what he does. If it happens, there's probably still a couple of years before it might even startPhanLo
- sort of hoping I get to work on this, purely see his processes. Dont ever want to see this but the books are epic and very cinematicmugwart
- That would be great to work on it.
Akira had a massive impact on me and as much as I like Taika, I doubt he'll get it right. But I'll still watch it.PhanLo - Agree entirely, love his films but I don't think he will, too much studio inputmugwart
- The only way to do this properly would be to do it in Japanese. But for the life of me I can't think of a single good live action Japanese movie after Kurosawa._niko
- I can rail off 20-30 amazing hong kong movies but Japanese movies escape me. Shit Even the Koreans have been kicking ass with the old boy/ms vengance movies_niko
- I'm thinking Battle Royal maybe? Ichi the Killer? I must me missing tons._niko

- master piece. There's one of these on the colour creation. I believe there was a warehouse just on the red jacket, as they could only create it in 1batchmugwart
- I feel a weird sense of awe and fear in my chest watching that. Just the scale of it - argh!GM278

Found a copy of Fire-Ball by Otomo, he did it before Akira in 1979, but lost interest after 20 or so pages. This is the only copy I could find online, looks like a student translated it as part of their course work.

It's awe inspiring to think of the time and number of people it took to paint every cell and detail crammed into Akira and the legacy Otomo's work. Akira was a massive inspiration on my animation career from the very first time I saw it (as I'm sure countless artists). As a kid I bought every book and figure (some of which still sit on the shelves in my studio) and I can't even tell you how many times I've paused and replayed scenes to study some tiny detail or bit of animation.

- fuck yes - I have the Kanda and Tetsu.
Akria also had such an impact on my career and life.mugwart - I have a few on my desk at work ... not allowed to photo due to NDAs.mugwart

Kind of an advert for Tokyo construction with some Akira bits and a CGI animation in between

To celebrate Akira's 30th birthday, Layer Lemonade brought together 13 animators to produce AKIRA OVERDRIVE, a collaborative project where each artist produced 5 seconds of animation with complete artistic freedom.

Was originally just going to post this below, but found the full animation above.

After spending over a decade in development hell, the live-action Akira adaptation looks to finally be making headway, as it’s set to enter production in California. And rumors continue to circulate about Marvel director Taika Waititi still in talks to head the project.
