Just bought it, what's up with the 608mb update? I'm house sitting and the wireless connection is balls with no ethernet cables in sight. Ho-hum, let down before I can even get started! ;-)
(looking forward to playing, though.)
- I didn't notice any difference after doing this. Said it needed 8gb on the disk too!Ranger

yeah, i know what you mean, _niko. ninja gaiden, swimming level in tmnt, ghouls and ghosts, landing the plane in top gun. it's just been a while since i've been up against something that difficult. games these days are more about the journey than getting the most out of 5 short levels through sheer difficulty, so it was pretty intense

How old are you SteveJobs? were you playing video games when they were fucking impossible? Like you had 3 lives and once you died it was game over, start from the fucking beginning, no continues and no save spots? Remember pole position, the slightest bump of another car caused a fucking explosion with bits of your car flying in all directions.
You had to be a complete masochist to play games back in the day.- but there was no greater sense of accomplishment than finishing them, or completing a level like you described_niko

update: i've gone from being a bit skeptical about this game to really being hooked on it, haha. i've got gold on all the races up through expert and i'm knocking those out pretty easy - especially when i can use this car here:
i wasn't too sure about it when it was first given to me, i mean it's a ford, but it out handle's and performs any other car in my garage.my biggest problem with this game are the tests. getting bronze is too easy, but silver or gold is sometimes near impossible - or i just don't have the patience. and probably the absolute hardest thing in gaming history for me was the IA-10 test.. ffffuuuuuuu. it disqualifies you for going off the road even just a little, or the slightest bump of another car, even if it's their fault. i probably started that race over 40 times before finally winning bronze at 7th place.. had to do it though to get a truck, which is a requisite for one of the beginner races..

so i've been working toward a good used car, and after finishing license they hand me this Acura DN-X Concept '02.. now it's not a matter of whether i win a race with this thing, but how close i get to lapping the guy in last position.. it's that fast. (granted, these are level 0-7 races). kinda defeated the purpose of me working so hard for a specific used car..

Buy a 1970 Dodge Challenger as soon as you can, it can compete in 4 or 5 series, including the Gran Turismo World Championships and win them all.
- Fully tuned, almost 800hp...handles better than you think when its lightened, stiffened, and you set the suspension right.JackRyan

just a few more gripes...
I hate having to try to figure out what car is eligible for a race then have to go find it in the used car show room. There has to be an easier way that trying to remember 15 cars or writing them down. Also I wanted to try to race 'carts online one night. After waiting to get into a room and waiting and watching them finish the race I went to hit start/enter race and it told me I didn't have a 'cart to race with and I didn't feel like trying to figure out where to buy one and start all over.
All in all my biggest gripe is to much hunting around, flipping through pages and not enough racing.
Looks great though when you can finally race.
- yyyep. not all of us want to 'level up' approach to a *racing* game, we wanna race!SteveJobs
- Totally agree fooler2.seeessess
- if you want to level up do the special events. If you want cars do the license test.elektro
- Arcade mode. Dont need to level up there.CygnusZero4

what was your first car? i picked up a mazda 'roadster' for mine, which is basically a miata. not too much hp, but it handles pretty well.

The level of detail in this game is insane.

basically a hidef simulation game.
BORING.
- SteveJobs0
CygnusZero, i think we just have a more casual interest in the game and want all the goodies up front rather than having to work for them... well, i do anyway.
- CygnusZero40
Huh? When you finish events you win cars. Basically what you do is just keep checking to see which events you can enter with your current cars, and just keep going through career mode like that. Or race online to earn credits.
Or you can go on gtplanet.net and beg someone to gift you a good car to use in events.

I wanted to like this game so bad! After playing it for hours and hours it's kind of boring having to race Toyota Yaris for a dozen races before you can afford to buy and better car and qualify for better races.
I want to get some codes so I can start racing any car I want.

well i won a copy of this game that i had no intention of ever buying, mostly because i feared the probability of some over-the-top sim experience instead of a more favorable arcade one. i popped it in last night and was pleasantly surprised... though, my low expectations probably had something to do with it.
i like the time trial since it allows me to test out several tracks and many of the available cars in the game, but haven't really done any races yet, so no true gt5 experience yet.
my only initial gripes are the HORRIBLE music which can't easily be turned off or down, which is pretty standard in most every other game out there that has a library of music. you have to manually go through the 150+ songs and access the menu of each individual game and uncheck it so you don't have to listen to it again.. lame.
the other problem is the 20k you're given to buy a car... it really forces you to commit to the game as you have to work your way up to anything decent by increasing both funds and level... also lame.
others thoughts on it?
- *individual songSteveJobs
- You can use your own music files in this game.CygnusZero4

23rd actually

They're already working on 6.
My guess is that'll be done by 2020.
- CygnusZero40
Awesome, only took them 6 years to finish it. I like when Kaz said that this was the videogame equivelant of the apollo moon landing.

can't wait.
