Pretty photos but the subject matter is old news. I see this shit day and day out on my drive downtown. *yawn*

Horrible, isn't it? Yeah, the whole place has just gotten more and more fucked over the years since I was a kid. I mean, 30 years ago it was bad; now it's far worse.
I remember seeing The Clash in about 1979, and them coming out and going, "Well, we've been in one fucked American city after another on this tour, but this Detroit place takes the fucking cake, doesn't it!"
But at that time, it was actually substantially better. Buildings downtown had businesses in them; there were decent grocery stores; there were nice neighborhoods.
There are still some entertainment activities in Detroit. Clubs to go to, and a few restaurants. Of course those places thrive on low rents, and the kids that go out will go to any sort of neighborhood.
But the businesses in Detroit? That actually operate during the day? Any of them that had any sense fucked off long ago.

There are some really neat things happening in Detroit right now. The possibilities are endless really... watch these videos, DIY paradise
- that's what Palladium Boots wants you to think. downtown is a small section surrounded by problems for miles and miles.Douglas

megE,
Sorry to burst your bubble but companies like that aren't exactly bringing new and sustainable business to Detroit or any of the surrounding areas. I'm glad they're able to make a buck off of the dying giant but lets face it - they come in, take what they need and get the fuck out.
Detroit recently has been praised as this DIY paradise for hipsters and artist-types alike but the fact is virtually all of those people are doing nothing to bring more money into the city and it's suburbs. They come in, scrape on by through low-rent housing and cheap living and move on to the next hipster commune eventually.
Gah.. now i'm ranting...

d_rek just doesn't want to succumb to the commune. one day, he will.

There's a few larger corp groups moving downtown. Compuware is there. Quicken will be down there soon. Afternoons in the Campus Martius area is pretty nice actually.
- most of those buildings are owned by dan gilbert—who also owns the cavaliers. he's buying up detroit.doesnotexist

It's america's 3rd world country, worse than some places in Africa.

Detroit is a "shining example" of capitalism, greed, ignorance, excesses, etc... This is what makes America great!
- God Bless America
- Or maybe it was our central government turning their backs on the american worker.74LEO
- Two sides of the same coin pretty much?ukit

So? Campus Martius is one sliver of Detroit. Don't get me wrong, it's a step, but having two medium sized corporations in Detroit aren't going to turn it around, though it certainly helps. That said, what I think really needs to happen is not of social doing. Politickin' needs to happen. City needs to be broken up and taxed as individual areas, etc. Money needs to go back into the areas it comes out of instead of spreading it thin throughout.
