    Horrible, isn't it? Yeah, the whole place has just gotten more and more fucked over the years since I was a kid. I mean, 30 years ago it was bad; now it's far worse.

    I remember seeing The Clash in about 1979, and them coming out and going, "Well, we've been in one fucked American city after another on this tour, but this Detroit place takes the fucking cake, doesn't it!"

    But at that time, it was actually substantially better. Buildings downtown had businesses in them; there were decent grocery stores; there were nice neighborhoods.

    There are still some entertainment activities in Detroit. Clubs to go to, and a few restaurants. Of course those places thrive on low rents, and the kids that go out will go to any sort of neighborhood.

    But the businesses in Detroit? That actually operate during the day? Any of them that had any sense fucked off long ago.
