so i need a new computer after my iMac from 2006 was smashed about a week ago.
macrumors says it's alright to buy it now: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com…
but then i read stuff like this and wonder what's around the corner: http://www.ipbrief.net/2010/09/1…
the physical design of it has been around for over a year, so i wonder if that's gonna change any time soon. i'd really hate to buy something and then a little while later the new version comes out.
looking to grab the 21" during lunch today. if you have any kind of top secret info about what's coming up for iMac... let me know. thanks.

- anything that says buy new when a new model has been released always gets my scorn. i prefer to wait till bugs are out.jaylarson
- iphone4 for example.jaylarson
- yes but it's saying exactly that... the current model is a recently updated version of a model from nov 09kingsteven
- a "Display Brightness Update" to be exact...kingsteven

In 1998 I was at a training seminar at Apple.... the instructor jokingly asked us how many of us were waiting for the "next big apple thing" before we bought another Mac, we laughed, he groaned, and he told us the story of the Osborne Two.
The Osborne One was a "portable" computer with a TINY screen and two 5 1/4 inch floppies running CP/M from the 80's. Mr Osborne was the head of his own startup company, he showed it to lots of trade shows, everyone asked about the small screen and he talked about how great the Osborne Two would be, with a bigger screen, etc....
Nobody bought the Osborne One, so there was no Osborne Two.... which was what the Apple guy was trying to hint at for us during the dark days of Apple in 1998....
Apple is stable, but hey, there's ALWAYS something around the corner, but just think of how much cool work you WOULD NOT get done while you wait, you can always buy and sell if you want....
- yeah i have the "new" imac at work actually. i think there was an update to the processor recently. so if it's any faster...iCanHasQBN
- ...that'd be cool.iCanHasQBN

if you can afford it, get the 27" i have it and love it, i use the 21" at work, and i miss all my extra space. i have the i5 with 8 gigs ram and its dope!! i do a lot of 3D work and i havent had any slow downs what so ever. even the Gif Animation Thread works perfect without any hitch, as b4 on my MBP it would crash my browser.
- The gif animation thread works? I'm getting one today!nb

Apple Cuts a Record $440.00 Off 20-Inch iMac Refurb
http://news.softpedia.com/news/A…By far the biggest saving opportunity we’ve ever seen on Apple’s online store, the 20-inch iMac equipped with a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor now costs just $759.00, which saves its lucky buyer a substantial $440.00. That’s 36% off the computer’s original price. The system ships with Mac OS X Snow Leopard pre-installed.

"god dammit you guys.. you're gonna make me get the 27". thing is so huge! and i don't even do much work at home - barely any."
Think of it as like a second TV of sorts if you don't always use it for work.

If you have money to spare, get the 27"
Otherwise, the 21" should be fine. You can use the money to upgrade everything else.
- iCanHasQBN0
ok, getting the 21" in about an hour. woot. i can't justify spending the money for a 27". it's too much screen for me.

also, this little tidbit, and then i'll go away... about 10 days ago, i randomly decided to back up everything that was on my home computer (for the very first time) to an external HD. 3 days later, my computer smashes to the ground - won't start up. Sexy timing.
