anyone know how the Olympus E-LP1 compare to Ricoh's new offering the Ricoh GXR?
- Rand0
from what I understand the gxr autofocus is so bad that it ruins an otherwise great camera
- 23kon0
that saddens me :(
i love my gx100.
was just looking at the gxr as it means id be able to use my nikon wide angle lens that gives a fisheye effect when on the front of my gx.

is it fourthirds or microfourthird lenses that the e-pl1 takes?

the e-pl1, GF1, e-p2, e-p1, G1, G2, G10, GH1 are all micro four thirds cameras. You can use four third lenses via an adapter.
There is indeed 2 wide angle lenses for micro four thirds, the Olympus 9--18mm and Panasonic 7-14mm, both good, the Olympus is better value though. Be reminded that m43 has a 2x crop factor, so the 9-18mm is effectively in 35mm Full frame terms 18-36mm, but just look at the photos (of a m43 body and the 9-18mm) and decide if its wide enough.
- "bloody hell" at the prices of both those lenses!23kon
- yeh i know, not cheap at all!
14mm is quite wide though, check some pics see if you agree.Hombre_Lobo - yeah 14mm isnt too bad. the 8mm ones on flickr have the wideness i like though :)23kon

Atkinson! fantastic, lovely set up there, covers most general shooting options.
How are you finding it? have you activated the Super menu yet?
this enables more menu options and i think its for more advanced photographers.

I get it on Tuesday, can't wait. Will report back! I just started another topic. Wondering about lens care / filters etc. Coming from point and shoot, both film and digi, I've not had to worry, so no clue!
- 23kon0
Atkinson, what did you mean by
"no, not on the body, so it works out £250!"where do you see the body on their site for £250???
- Atkinson0
no, the body is something like £325, then you have to do the £75 bit which makes it about £250. I ordered on ebay on their store. They're good on the phone too.
- 23kon0
it's £429 on their site for the body.
do you have a link for their store on ebay?
just tried searching shopnames for srs mircosystems to no avail
- 23kon0
buying the body, 14-42 & 17mm from ebay works out just £12 cheaper than from their site btw
- Hombre_Lobo0
Atkinsons where did you buy yours from again? did you say you got the E-PL1 and the 20mm for under £600? can you post links please.

For camera care, all i have is
Giottos rocket air blower (great for blowing dust off the lenses, and if needed the sensor)
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/…And this for cleaning lenses with a cloth, but almost always use the blower first
http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Inn…if you wipe your lens with the cloth and there is a particle of grit, sand w/e it will scratch the hell out of your lens. BLOW FIRST! :D
and for my 20mm i have this filter so i dont worry about damaging the element -
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/…People will say UV filters reduce image quality, but i can guarantee, you couldnt tell the difference between filtered and non filtered photos.

23kon!
the 17mm olympus pancake is by means a bad lens, its great, sharp and wide, but the panasonic is regarded as (one of if not) the best m43 lens, and its a lot wider aperture f1.7. If you have choice between them, it would be unwise to get the olympus one.
- Atkinson0
Here's their shop on ebay.
£660 after rebate, gets 20mm pancake, 14-42 and the EPL1 body. I think buying the kit and the extra lens worked out a bit more.

Any advice on UV / skylight for these lenses?
