yeh the shot to shot is bad (if its noticeable to the user)
The E-pl1, still has the best IQ of any m43 camera. Its slightly sharper than my GF1, but not by much. Its even better than a d5000 (as seen at the top of this page), but its not a great performer with speed.
I think you want the GH2. I havent seen any concrete reviews yet though.
the reasons being - It has a 0.1 second autofocus (CDAF), its amazingly fast. The high iso performance from prototype models look to be the best of m43. The IQ will hopefully be better than the E-pl1 and as it uses a new advanced sensor. and as a bonus it will take the best video of any hybrid cam, better than 5d mkII and 7D. The G series are also very fast performers, the GH2 can take 40 (4MP) stills a second apparently! :D

the gh2 looks amazing, price is creeping up a little though! Unless there's a one lens does all solution?!

Yeh the GH2 is the bomb!
It also does iso 12800! which given its sensitivity is not too bad.Indeed it is rather pricey, but they do a body only version, not sure what the prices are.
And as a bonus we can hope it gets hacked for even higher bitrate video! When will someone release an open source camera eh?
Also IIRC the stock bitrate is 23mbs, but it has a higher number of B frames (whatever they are!), which makes the quality higher, so its more like a piece of footage with the normal amount of B frames at 34mbps.
- it also does fullHD 60fps IIRC.
the GH1 did 1280x720 60FPS.Hombre_Lobo_2

Just had another go with the 550d, it's impressive but it's size is it's downfall compared to m4/3. Tried the pan g2 just because I hadn't already, undecided, images seem ok if a little noisy. Nex just feel like they're ging to snap.

ah cool.
The 550d is an amazing cam. The video it produces is also indistinguishable from the canon 7D video. yeh panasonics m43 can get quite noisy.
as you shoot RAW - Have you seen Lightroom 3's new improve noise reduction engine? makes a pretty big difference.
- Atkinson0
Yes, I use LR3 a lot.
On paper I'm trying to see how the G2 holds up against the GF1 and the GH2
- Hombre_Lobo_20
well that wasn't very warm atkinson.
Shall i just assume this outrageous romance has come to an end?
- Atkinson0
hm not sure I understand you?!
Reading more about the GH2 today, really does look great. Hired the 550d too for the week to give it a decent outing.

i was just joking around, saying that this thread has turned into us two chatting / flirting. (im joking, im male, and straight!)
Yeh man the GH2 is the bees knees!!!!!!!!
have you seen the Tele Conversion Feature for video? its amazing.
Simply put -
A HD video is 1920x1080 OR 1280x720.
The the sensor on the GH2 is 4000x3000 pixels (its a bit more than that really). When recording video it usually uses the entire sensor, but their is now an option (tele conversion) to use just the center 1920x1080 pixels, essentially cropping the fuller image / fuller sensor, allowing the user to zoom in to what ever it is they are filming further.
The same way when you crop an image, but for video, without any quality loss. its like sticking a longer lens on your camera and filming (obviously slight FOV differences).
i think its a x2.8 increase. Genius idea by panasonic.
- Atkinson0
ha, I see, I'll tell my wife!
The video feature is crazy, could well be wasted on me but the option might make me use it.
Getting some alright images from the 550, raw with no editing just on 'p' mode are quite good, a bit over saturated / vibrant. Comparing to the S95 and GRD3.
- Hombre_Lobo_20
Ha do tell her!! :)
pleased you rented it. Very smart move. I suspect it will give slightly sharped pics than the GH2 and better dynamic
range, but I'm unsure of which is better high iso. It's a great cam, I think it's dpreview.com's highest ever rated cam, taking value for money into account. It's a great all rounder. Be sure to shoot some video, it's stunning. Canon also released a firmware update recently for more FPS options when shooing video!
Post some pics here!!
Just got a covering of snow outside my flat, UK, picture time!!
- Atkinson0
Yeah, it's a perk of lecturing, access to the media stores! Sadly they won't be getting the GH2! I'll have a go of the GH1 today in town, snow permitting, none as yet.

I've seen a few test shots and vids from the GH2. The vids are great, the test shots less so. However, I always find test shots unadventurous. A flower, a house, a person. Doesn't stretch things too far!
Actually, I tried the G2 and don't like it so much, the 550 wins over that I think. I hate the rubber coating on the G2.Do you have your animation online?
