I find it interesting everyone sees it as "border patrol overreacting to rock throwing" kind of thing, forgetting the boy was involved in illegal activity. He wasn't just walking there, throwing rocks about. He was caught breaching a national border – quite a serious offense on its own – and attacked an officer while at it.

Technically, this is no different from attacking a cop while caught on robbery. People get shot like that all the time and nobody makes a problem out of it. If you're caught red-handed breaking into some property at night, stand the fuck still or you might get shot – this is common sense.

What if someone was trying to sneak out of an airport, bypassing border control and started throwing rocks at guards when approached. Would the use of force be justified?

Somebody died, this is always wrong. But apologizing would be sending a wrong message on a large scale. Thousands of people who are about to breach the border will laugh at US public naive stupidity. The right message is "the border is closed and guarded by armed officers. Don't even fucking think of breaching it."

Perhaps the borders should be open. But we're not discussing this now. The border has been closed for ages and was being breached.

"President Felipe Calderon [..] will use all resources available to protect the rights of Mexican migrants." – what rights is he talking about? A right to safely break into neighbouring country? This is actually funny in its absurdity.

Border Patrol doesn't fuck around, everyone around here, on both sides of the border, knows that. Especially if you're throwing shit at them.
