Post timeless design examples here to inspire me to feel that timelessness is still a priority for all y'all...

Some things are timeless because a narrative between a designed object and society has been allowed to build over time. Associations are built up throughout ages.
Now-a-days no 'thing' (designed object / brand) is given the same opportunity - because society is transitioning from an industrial ages (where change was expensive), to a digital age ( where change is cheap).

- Industry VS Digital...ideaist
- Yeah, that's probably a good metaphor. I think the danger comes, when people start to think that today is _worse_.lukus_W
- It isn't - we still have as much talent .. it's just that our ability to focus has changed due to changes in society.lukus_W
- Yeah; how can you focus on less with more around than ever! paradox and what not...ideaist

While there are a few "timeless" marks, much of what we do in design is predicated on current culture and society. So it makes sense that things we create need an update from time to time. My 2 cents at least.

I think what we're seeing in the examples above is the power of well designed contrast. If a shape works in one flat color and still looks good / conveys what it must then it is a powerful logo. (No simple task.) If it requires gradients and shadows it is crap. Technology may allow us to do more (like the current at&t transparent sphere logo) but our human eyes and brains still latch on best to simple geometric shapes. I can't wait for this other trend that we're in to die. I was heartened when Coke removed all the gradients and fake ice graphics from their cans. But in the end they're just a company that sells sugar water to suckers.
We are all suckers.
