In a perfect world... Yeah name every layer. Reality... Jus dump the proper layers into named layer sets according to wires and use the auto select for layers...

I hate cunts that use a new text field in photoshop for every bit of text in a site design.
Learn to use the character dialog box you lazy cunts.
Plus people who use guides that dont snap to pixel.. wtf?
:)

I can deal with un-named layers. If I were to make a complaint, I just want poeple to delete layers not used. When half the layers aren't used it drives me nuts :p

yeah, what did you need?
oh thought you were talking to me directly.

The cd part, because they are getting paid more

what is worse.. getting handed work from a lazy ass designer or being advised on the job by a lazy ass creative director?

Also, when I get a shitty layered file thats enormous, I send it back as unacceptable. It's like getting your dinner without the plate and fork, or even uncooked.

Hey,
It's nice and all to keep your files clean. Sometimes you don't have a neat little thing we all need to a better job called ENOUGH FUCKING TIME.
- jk. I'm ocd with my layers. As for the system, if youre an interactive designer your layers should follow your wireframe semanticscannonball1978
- This is so true. Good design and production takes time.Josev
- nah, good design get's pulled out of your ass on a tight deadline with an extra rush job thrown in for kicks.monNom

No offense to anyone in particular... but
We all like to think we have the perfect system, and we all probably do, but truth is, when that file gets on someone else's hands, is going to be a nightmare..
NO MATTER HOW TIDY AND ORGANIZED YOU THINK YOU ARE
I mean, of course there are extreme situations were the files are just going to be a complete mess, and there is a big chance that either of these happened:
a) Whoever made the file originally is not really a designer, but your client's niece.
b) Is a designer in training, be nice and explain how to do it.
(remember that were were all there at some point)c) He was your new client's previous designer, and your client owe him money, but decided that they would rather scam someone else, he has every right to give you a complete mess (and you better thank him that he even consider giving you the files).

worst of all are illustrator files.
i used to work with a creative director who makes compositions with illustrator, whether for web or print. she would create all the pages with one file, in one layer. she would pick colors from different palettes and never delete the ones she doesn't use. she would also have the folders for the linked files in different place in her computer. either that, she would embed all the files and ending up with a huge file that would take forever to open and save. making final comps from her files, half the day is spent sorting out which elements goes to which composition and finding all the linked files.
from this experience, i've learned to make my files, my codes and my filing system as clean and clear as possible. even if they're only for me.

My Illustrator files are pristine. And the code I hand off is just as clean. I like to think it's because I respect other people who may need to handle my files in the future. The reality is that I must do this so when I look at the files tomorrow morning I have at least a partial clue where I am and what my name is. I'm not so keen on mornings. It's like watching Memento.

- Fucking seriously! I also revisit files, sometimes years later, and it's refreshing to know they're how they should be.monospaced

Lazy arse designers just deliver psd files full stop...is it the 90's?
- akrok0
hah...i feel your pain.

I deal with lazy architects... I ASK for eps files, clean, no titleblock - instead they export their FULL CAD files, all in TINY little lines... so I can spend 2 hours cleaning the stupid file to make it manageable
- < agreed... who do you work for?Knuckleberry
- charge those hours and they'll learn.stewart
