regarding a wordpress install when i asked the client to upgrade their hosting...
"What if we need to change something from this website? I don't know how to use MySQL And it would be silly to have to ask you everytime, and not to mention very costly for us. Why not have a normal webpage in normal format (plain HTML with plain javascript not MySQL"

Client phone message, after they finally received the quotes they've been waiting on for production: "We've used up all the time, you have no time left, you need to get the art to vinyl cutter this afternoon". They've spent weeks getting cost estimates for production and at 2:30pm wanted me to produce the final art for their vendor by 5pm. This is for 10 fleet vehicles.
- They also just gave me approval for the designs on this same call.Josev

One of my projects just got cancelled because the client got sent to jail. How is that for a story!

on multiple occasions ---
go through the whole process of designing Concept 1 & 2... no good... no. 3 & 4... no good... no. 3b & 4b + extra 5th concept... client then decides they in fact like Concept 1.

There is one semi-legit client issue behind alot of this apparent randomness:
Salespeople need stuff fast and adaptable, marketing people want things to impress other marketing people and are in no hurry except right at the end when salespeople need it NOW...
I used to think salespeople were assholes and idiots until I had to do what they do..... yes, some have ego's, but sales keeps the company afloat and marketing droids just go to meetings.... yes, branding is cool and future vision is good, but most clients are closer to going broke than you think....
SO, a huge amount of the crap designers deal with is due to the above conflict....
- stop making sense! where the hell do you think you are?!ItTango

Which reminds me. I recently met with a client to review the content they came up with for their website.
First, she hands me a sheet of paper, and tells me it is for the home page. Okay, I guess I can retype this, it's not too long.
Next, she pulls out a sheaf of paper for the products page. It's a printout of a competitor's website. She crosses out the pictures, and a couple of paragraphs, and says "Here, just use this."
"But that's your competitor's. And it's copyrighted content. We can't use it."
Client sits for a second, looks down at the paper, and back up at me. "Sure we can, it doesn't have their company name or anything in the text."
I point down at the footer of the website she printed out. "No, you really can't. It even says so down there. '© 2008 XYZ Corp. All rights reserved.' That means they don't want anyone to use it."
She gives me a blank stare for ten full seconds. "I don't understand."
I end up taking the content as she provided it to me. Whatever.
- there a short paragraph that you should add to you T&C mentioning that you won't be liable for any contents.. Ta-da!maikel

Caller ID and voicemail solves problems like that for me.

^ So my not-too-bright client who I invoiced for "Phone Support" etc, just tried to forward the invoice to another one of my clients. (The two companies sometimes work together on projects.)
The second client just phoned me asking why they were being billed. I explained the situation to them, no problems. So I'm expecting a call any minute now from the first client. What a mess.
- what about billing them for the new phone calls where you have to explain all this shit....vaxorcist

Is it wrong that...
Clients that mark up changes to PDF artwork on Basecamp by printing it out, scribbling unreadable notes on it, scan it, then save as a PDF and send it back via email outside of Basecamp make me want to bomb a town.
Seriously. For fucks sake.
