What would you guys use for backup? I've been backing things up on DVDs, but it takes too long if you have big folders.
Some people save everything on-line, others use DAT tapes, or others say use hard drive solutions like Drobo.
All I know is that I have a lot of data to backup, and I want find the right way to do it.
Any ideas?

I use a combination of things. I have large external storage devices that I occasionally back my entire working drive on to in bulk. For important files that I am working on I use Dropbox http://www.dropbox.com to keep a live backup of everything I produce.
I save any current working file into my Dropbox folder and it automatically uploads it to Dropbox and syncs the files across to my home computer. Dropbox also saves previous versions of the files so if you accidentally ctrl+s when you didn't want to, you can go back to previous versions.
I would use Dropbox for everything but my free allocation is only 4GB, which is why I do bulk backups to drives.

Dropbox for most recent files and quick access (free - 2GB limit)

i have time machine set up to write to an external terabyte g-drive, and when projects are done, i burn dvd disks... i've been screwed so many times with hard drive fails, that i don't trust a drive alone.

a good backup plan always includes redundancy including a copy off site. what good is backing up to DVD, external HDs, etc, if your house burns down, or the robbers come?
Dropbox and the like are awesome since it covers both the redundancy and theft but if you are trying to sync TBs of data, it becomes impractical. find some cheap externals and buy two of them. sync them using rsync or other means. take the 2nd drive to your work/buddy's/girlfriend's
i'm looking at getting this to avoid a string of externals as time goes on.
http://www.hp.com/united-states/…it's kinda like a drobo but way cheaper. i'd mirror it with the externals i currently own and take those to my parent's house.

It's actually harder than it should be because of the trade-offs of convenience versus thoroughness but if it's not a) automated, b) redundant, c) rotated offsite regularly then its not backup.
If you can afford it buy a 2-drive (or more) RAID NAS for your network. Backup to this. Clone it once a month to an external drive and keep the clone offsite, better keep 2 or more clone drives, rotate them.
