@jimzyk: I was given a chance to say something only AFTER I was reamed about this and how I could have single-handedly gotten our agency shut down and out of business.
To make matters worse, I have just been sick for the last 7 or 8 days, missing five days of work. This was the absolute worst shit to have to deal with today—I WASN'T EVEN FULLY HEALTHY AGAIN AND GOT MY ASS LIT UP BY MY AGENCY'S PRESIDENT.

I would say it was highly influenced due to the similarity of the names alone - without hearing the story I'd have thought it was a spoof.
- Not saying you were, saying how it seemsgraham
- Yeah, the names aren't helping.acrossthesea

^ and the name is HUGE in mentally linking the two together. But you didn't have any control over the name, did you?
- boobs0
Your agency is really out of line to ream you on this. You've done nothing wrong.
- dMullins0
No, I had absolutely no control over the name. The name is a play on the company's tagline, which is "Remarkable XXXXXXX"
I'm not putting the actual tagline, because I don't want to out anyone here, client or otherwise. Please respect that.

so how did the meeting end? did you get to say your piece? are they on your side or not?!?
- dMullins0
The meeting ended with me saying, "I cannot believe you would question my professional integrity like this upfront without even asking me about it first." Then we went back and forth for about 20 minutes about how similar they were, to which I said, "I could find millions of logos we could say the exact same thing about." In the end, he said, "I guess I have to believe you."
It ain't about how it ended, it's about how it started, and how I was treated—in other words, like a piece of shit.

sucks that they started in on you like that, but out of all the possible outcomes, the one that happened isn't too bad (i.e. they didn't fire you and/or disbelieve you). i hope they treat you better in the future...
- Thanks mate.dMullins
- also, GOOD ON YOU for sticking up for yourself and speaking up instead of slinking back to your desk.bigtrickagain

Perhaps it's ok to use the R-word if it's satire?

You're not in the wrong here and you have every right to defend yourself. Of course being a visual designer means you're privy to a lot more visual culture than most people are but even still, it's not your job to consume all of it. You cannot be faulted unless you knowingly and purposefully appropriated visual language and vernacular from 'The Incredibles' brand identity.
If any blame is to be directed shouldn't it be back at the client and your superiors? If they developed and nurtured the art and creative direction for this identity and then proceeded in a direction they were not 100% sure about and had not been researched thoroughly then again, you cannot be at fault. And nobody should assume that you would have ever had any connection to the movie 'The Incredibles'... there are thousands of massively, commercially available items of culture that are spewn out every year.... to say you blatantly ripped is a bit of a stretch. And really... if there was any doubt that you didn't do your job all they have to do is look at the explorations you did.

This is a logo for an internal employee program? Hardly anyone will see that logo anyway. Your legal department needs to calm down.

Totally fucking ridiculous.

First of all, The Incredibles was a remarkable film.
Secondly, not a rip, BUT your work did remind me of the film even before I read your entire post. Unfortunate, but true.
I think you did a good job though. Good luck.
- First point is true, but a bit of a joke. Sorry if you're not feeling up for jokes...juhls

put your boss on notice. that is seriously ridiculous and it sounds like they don't even have a clue. that's a total over reaction on their part. just from this story i bet i can tell exactly what the company you work for is like as well as the guy running it. get out.

I can imagine how the meeting came about. The client discovered it, called your bosses, and shit rolls down hills. In organizations with strong leadership blame should go UP the org chart, and praise should flow DOWN.
Comments like "An exclamation point is just an up-side-down i" shows that they don't know shit about typography or grammar.
Where do you work? Sounds like some shitty bosses.
