I'll wait for the next version or beyond when there's a camera, more apps, and slightly better everything. I don't need this one yet.

Nope. My iMac and iPhone are more than I need already (although I'd be hard-pressed to get by without either).

yes ... but it's a decision that isn't helped by their lame marketing ... and either the marketing is some kind of genius I don't understand or it's a big fuck up, what the fuck is this shit ... they are getting out of touch with their demographic: http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video…
I would have gave the product a full mirco-site inversion covering improved lifestyle aspects.
example slides:
show a professor and students interacting over documents and charts ... professor goes over notes on projector with iPad while student types notes and follows along ... etc.move to next slide ... a women purchasing a book off of amazon, download it and start reading it while sitting outside watching her kids play
next slide ... sports slide .. obvious BS
next slide ... a doctor using it to chart out health records from patients
next slide ... kid plays a learning game while in car during a family vacation
damn... I just threw out some pearls
I don't need some creepy nerds telling how magical it is ... very very weird
- ipod was built around music ... they should build this one around books ... it needs a backbonerayborn3000
- How can you say they're getting out of touch with their demographic when they just had their best quarter ever?boobs

No.
I'll wait to get a slate with the functionality of a laptop, and the sensitivity of a Wacom tablet.

Here's something Apple could attempt:
Become a mobile provider.Think of it this way. You have multiple mobile devices, and so too many mobile plans, which you probably don't max out or even get close too on a monthly basis.
One plan for all mobile devices.... say $99/month (10Gb peak and unlimited off peak) and you can use it across your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro etc etc. It could conceivably work across any mobile device equipped with a defined set of numbers. They could even add devices further down the track for just an extra $5/month.
I don't think this would be too hard to accomplish technically, and it opens up an ever expanding revenue stream. Perhaps Apple could even create and license a miniSIM that would work this way.
....although, with the use of the miniSIM in the iPad perhaps I'm just a couple of days behind the stealth launch of this.
Wait for future versions of all these devices to include miniSIMs, or dongles/cards including miniSIMS that will retrofit current iPhones etc.
- btw. iPad looks appealing to me. I don't have an iPhone, Ipod Touch or Laptop so this becomes my portable device of choice.Amicus

The main question is whether or not we need this new computer appliance inside our homes or offices. Many of us can easily say that we don't need the device. Many had given the same response before the first personal computer. "Why would want a computer?!" However times have changed, and we now have home computers and much more. However, people didn't foresee the possibilities in applications that could run on it.
A new question is also proposed, "Why do I need a tablet?" I believe that the tablet poses similar issues to television owners in the 1950s. Why do I need more than one television? Now we have many televisions in the house. Everyone in the house has their own computers and phones as well. But who needs the third screen? That could possibly change with the advent of new applications.
Personally right now, I see it more of a luxury item I can do without, but I would honestly love to have one. If I cannot have one, my task is to self-verify myself and make an excuse and add it to everyone else list of reasons.
Is it a good device? It's all about the applications that will run on it.

they need to work harder convincing people that the need out weighs the consumer guilt if they want this thing to take off...

No. For most of these reasons in 1 to 95.
A lot has been made (hyped) of the eBook and publishing deals and that it will do for books what iTunes/Pod has done for music.
You can arguably 'consume' more music than books at any one time; an album takes an hour or so to listen to and the number of places you can use an iPod is huge. So the iPod meant increased opportunities to listen to more, easily available music. Who reads more than a couple of books at a time, and how long do they take to read?
If you enjoy reading, what is better than a paperback novel? They are easy to get hold of and already in the ultimate format. iPad at the beach? or on a plane? (certainly not during takeoff and landing). And if you don't like reading, will iPad convert you?
I don't get it.

It's nice and all to talk about all of these great things that Apple *could* do, but the truth of the matter (and we all know it) is that Apple is going to do exactly what the fuck Apple wants to do.
