What app devs noticed, it's very fast compared to the 3Gs. It is going to be a facking killer console with no buttons to control it.

I think the question is more 'Why'?
If this is the shape of things to come in terms of reading a book, paying for news articles and interacting in the same way we interact with iTunes with regards music, then as a device I think it will do well.
I can embrace change, but I won't be buying one. Yet.
- Likely, you have it already, in a different format.raf
- Exactly. I think this device will filter into our lives over time. I didn't rush out for an iPhone...MatDolphin
- Paying for news, when did that happen onlienpillhead
- You'll soon be able to download an article, instead of buying a newspaper....MatDolphin

In terms of reading books, no gadget in the fucking world is going to replace beautiful, hardback books like Helmut Schmid's: Design is Attitude, etc.

What hasn't an ebook / ipad been made from this technology yet- the article below is from nearly 3 years ago.
- the pressure sensitive plate that makes it touch screen would hate thatversion3
- fair enough- i'm not a hardware expert, but thought something more intuitive could have been created as an ebookThe_archer

Jobs' constant sniping at netbooks is amusing. My cheap netbook does everything I want but play games and the battery lasts for 8-10 hours. His presentation even listed "PC software" as a downside of a netbook. Yeah man, being able to choose from a billion programs and install whatever the hell I want is a real pain in the arse.

Also, the lack of multitasking (you can't even browse the web and IM chat at the same time) makes this completely non-viable as an alternative to a laptop. It fills a niche that I'm not even sure exists.

You have a point, but you miss that this device does not target people like you.
I don't think there are that much people who fell the need of being able to watch a divx, while working on some illustrator file and checking qbn on the interweb in the same time....Most criticism made forget the fact this thing will be :
-a gadget for people who already have a laptop or/anf iphone
-or a very appealling and easy to use small computer to waste some time. When "using a computer" is all about checking facebook (as most people use their computer), why the fuck would you need a real computer which you would not use 99% of its possibilites?
- no music during the news!!!version3
- no music looking at pictures!!!version3
- If that was really the case, the thing would at least have a simple camera for Skype use.moth
- How do you know, iPod multitasks on the iPhone. By the time it's launched it'll have OS v4 with multitaskingraf
- No music browsing the web. That's pretty fucking shit really.moth
- I used daily skype for 2 years andcan say video chat is just lame...dyspl
- you don't need a cam to make a call.dyspl
- my mom needs video for skype, she does conferences with sisters daily and also must see her nieceraf
- i need to show people tangible models sometime. and i miss people in ks and hkversion3
- and if they had cams we'd fucking around with them instantlyversion3

at least they are doing something in the playground of product development. we don't have to like it but it stimulates future versions and competing industries to do more. our insistence on perfection and outcry of dissatisfaction helps to push them further. we will rarely be satisfied, our dreams are sacred. my answer for this is not yet. but i'm curious to see what else happens...

im into it, but ill wait for version 2. it really should run more programs at once. either that or a drop in price.

i think that this is a niche device, more like Kindle than a computer, since it is really i think mostly meant as a passive device
so people who are creators, people on this thread, will not see the value, or even be offended
then entire world is moving to computer screens...movies, newspapers, magazines, books, and of course games.
so why not something dedicated to mostly watching / reading with light interaction?
kinda expensive though....
