There's this OMA-designed building in France where the suspended acoustical ceiling inside runs mid-height on a soaring glass curtain facade. (So that from the exterior you can see all the mechanical guts above the ceiling tiles - of which rough edges cut by construction workers' utility blades are plainly in view.
That took balls.

- I'd say craigslist is more neutral-design.lukus_W
- Craigslist and Google both follow sort of a path toward total function with little design. but not anti-design.luckyorphan
- i think google is minimal, craigslist is none at allmoIdero

So anti-design, is an equivalent to anti-fashion? Taking conventions and fcking with them, so that dissonance can be used as a defining feature.
I think that the novelty achieved can be interesting for a short while - but ultimately, this kind of thing feels like a slightly desperate attempt to appear avant-garde or fresh. Those who 'get it' can be especially pleased with themselves, because they get to feel that they're non-mainstream and sophisticated.
Culturally - as good design becomes more ubiquitous and accessible to the masses - it's currency becomes lessened or diluted. Alternative ways of remaining distinctive need to be developed, and I think that movements like 'anti-design' might be partly seeking to achieve this kind of distinction.

We have this loclal healthcare office, where there is a sign on the wall as you would see next to art objects, it says: "The omitting of the ceiling system in this building was an intervention of Joep van Lieshout".

Interestingly i think it goes a fit further. Some of the best examples of really, really bad design are the posters for public transportation here in NYC - they are so bad that often with even my non visual friends we make fun of them... thus the transportation bad-design poster gets more attention and thus is more memorable then some of the better designed posters... Who wins then?

^^ imo, I don't think this hits the spot -> too much trashiness, not enough art-school.

I'm having the urge to make a site with some jquery, html5 and css3 that mirrors what was cutting edge mid 90's sites...colors, pixel fonts, weird mystery meat navigation, etc. I just did a whole bunch of @fontface experiments with my old pixel fonts and it was lots of fun, but barely legible (just like the old days), but at least it's all indexable by google now and not some giant image file...

i think wha's interesting is the contious way in which some things are design 'ugly'
persinally i quite like how some things look like they've been thrown together. but not so much 'extra stuff' added that its unecessary. i think the mess can look quite nice!
quite liked mia site (See bove) how about you guys?
any other sites you can think of?
