Pure, nostalgic goodness:
June 6th, 2017.
- what the hell, no VR mode?scarabin
- None of the games people want. No 1, 2097, or 3. Rights must be an issue - they were made by Psygnosis before they became Sony Liverpool, I think.face_melter

Late to the party but man Breath of the Wild is phenomenal. I haven't been sucked into a game like this in probably well.. ever.
I'm either beside myself with how imaginative the game is or the sheer size. Sometimes (most of the time, actually) I just wander. I'll climb and climb and then pick a direction and jump. I'm reminded of the feeling I had as a child when I'd wander away from home to explore and feel the thrill and sometimes fear of getting lost in the woods or wherever I was. Finding remote desolate areas is a lot like that. And the lacking whimsical music and common Zelda themes are now replaced with the sounds of nature - the wind, animals, and the elements.
It's crazy because sometimes when I'm playing I'll start to just notice how much thought and effort went into everything and I can't wrap my mind around it. It no longer feels like just maps, models, animations, collision detection, particle effects, and scripted story. It's like an actual universe with physics, chemistry, and it's all discoverable and interactive - and it's vast!
I had a moment the other day where I was making my way into the desert through these deep canyons and a traveler camped at the base of the canyon who lost his horse offered to buy mine. I didn't really seem to need it given that I was planning on heading to the top of the canyon and I'd have to mostly climb anyway. I sold him the horse and began my journey. With each plane I ascended I'd look back to where I started, watching it grow smaller and smaller. I was impressed with the draw distance and LOD of the havoc engine, but what really blew me away was how such a small thing like climbing the canyon walls and the slow ascent was an investment of time much like it would be in real life. I came across a set of planks tied together that hugged the length of the winding canyon walls and thought about following it down and exploring it for items but decided to continue up instead and then it hit me: I'll probably never visit this spot again - ever! In fact, I wonder how many corners and crevices will go undiscovered in this game. So much time, effort, and detail was put into this vast world that some players will never see or experience. Well done Nintendo.
Breath of the Wild, welcome to my top 5 of all time.
- goddammit! im sick of these reviews. all it does it want me to go out and buy a switch but even if i did id not have any time for it....deathboy
- My favourite thing are the Korok seeds. You just walk along and see a strange set of rocks, you pick one up to complete a pattern and *poof* wee seed guy!face_melter
- But yeah, I turned the HUD/mini-map off and just started walking in a direction to see what there is to see. The main game can wait.face_melter
- what deathboy said ... plus they still go for $500 in the USmonospaced
- Funny thing is, I played this for like 100 hours, and NEVER came across anyone trying to buy my horse. Nutty.CygnusZero4
- I think that's beautiful.monospaced

This fucking game, man.
Everything you see you can travel to, climb and investigate. No blaring object markers, no obnoxious lines telling you where the next mission is, no artificial blocks stopping your progress unless you talk to NPC XYZ. Absolute freedom. What other title gives you the time to sit and watch squirrels roll and chase acorns down a hill? Wonderful.
- wantset
- Did you take these? How did you get them off the switch?CygnusZero4
- Actually im seeing Link has the classic green tunic on, so im guess you didnt take these.CygnusZero4
- damn, I really should have been taking my screenshots with HUD offinteliboy
- also yes - how did you get these on to qbn?? be fun to share our Zelda pics.inteliboy
- Yeah, they're mine - I have an MicroSD card in my Switch, you can set it as the default screenshot save point.face_melter
- And the green tunic is the reward for completing a (quite fun) mission from a character you meet early on.face_melter
- You turn off the Switch, remove the card and hook it up with a USB reader to get the images off. No-one knew this?face_melter
- Well, you meet the character early but they give you the mission when you see them in a completely different location.face_melter
- Isnt this either the reward from the ocarina of time amiibo, or the one you get from completing all the shrines?CygnusZero4
- Nah, it's from a cooking mission :Dface_melter
- The cooking mission rewards you with the warm doublet. I dont think this is it.CygnusZero4
- Yeah, that's it. The only clothing I have received.face_melter
- looks cool.dbloc
- Can i play it on pc?drgs
- ^ lolset
- ok i thought the warm doublet looked different than thatCygnusZero4
- drgs comment of the month.SteveJobs
- why?
http://www.polygon.c…drgs - well, drgs, you clearly found the case where a guy is using a Wii U emulator on his PC to play this game, but Nintendo has never released a PC version, evermonospaced

As I was playing through Zelda, I would take screenshots of things that I thought were beautiful or interesting.
By the time I got to the end of the game, I had like this flip book of my entire journey, and didn't recognize many of the places I took the screenshots at. That's how vast this game is. It was also interesting to see how I progressed. After 2 or 3 shots, I had new gear on. So at the beginning I was running around in scrubs with a tree branch, and by the end I had ancient armor with flame swords and all kinds of nutty shit. Pretty cool.
- CygnusZero40
Some of the many pix I took of Zelda thoughout my journey. This is only like half of them lol. Sorry didnt turn the HUD off.
- What the, why arent they loading?CygnusZero4
- Because you derped itset

- Sweet. I have been playing it with headphones, to take in the ambient sounds. First time I heard the lightning strike I almost shit myself!face_melter
- the one on the rocks / death mountain is A+inteliboy
- You can see i used the champions tunic throgh the whole game lolCygnusZero4
- I fully upgraded it. 72 armor with hood and trousers upgraded tooCygnusZero4
- I dyed it all red. Princess Mononoke style.inteliboy
- You cant dye the champions tumic.CygnusZero4
- CALLES1
am i crazy for barely using the Horses at all in zelda. i just like the running around
- I don't use em. When I whistle they never are around so I just gave up. Being on foot means more exploration anyway.inteliboy
- the magic in the game is in the exploration which is somewhat lost on horseback. max out your stamina and you can basically sprint up mountains and glide wherevdigitdaily
- :)since1979
- I like riding bears. Yes, you can ride bears.jtb26
- CygnusZero40
I played zelda for 100 hours and rarely used horses bc of the fact that you constantly want to stop and get off when something catches your eye.
- Milan0
I avoided horses too so far, but used sand seals a lot because the desert is too big to walk around on foot.
- Milan-3
Those Japs at Nintendo really mastered game design. Every aspect of Zelda just oozes with brilliance. If you have any interest in video games, you owe it to yourself to play it.
- duhsince1979
- lolmonospaced
- Well, theyve only been doing this for decades.CygnusZero4
- This was their first open-world game and they nailed it on the first try. It's better than GTA, Fallout, Far Cry, Assasin's Creed, Elder Scrolls...Milan
- which each had more than 4 iterations.Milan

Eurogamer has all the hardware spec details of the upcoming Xbox Scorpio
- Wow, that's a bit of a beast, by console standards. Sony may come to regret jumping so early... .
Still wouldn't buy an Xbox though.detritus - So is it going to have exclusive games that fully take advantage of this?CygnusZero4
- Both the PS4 Pro and the Scorpio are mid gen updates, Sony is doing just fine.
Xbox needs to deliver on the catalog front, let's see what they announce @ E3ernexbcn - Ill pay $700 for this....Maybe $800ArmandoEstrada
- Sony lazily messed up the Pro launch. No one really knows about it, nor cares. MS are going to push this updated Xbone HARD.inteliboy

- we really tried to 'charm up' the brutality by really making it kinda slapstick haha :D Sorta like the Monty Python Black Knight skit. :Dmantrakid

Bayonette is coming for PC - 4K, soundtrack, art book.
More Platinum awesomeness after the incredible Nier: Automata. Don't care that I have already bought it twice and played the complete fuck out of it. My 1070 needs a new workout.
