Well, you should build it. Someone will soon enough.

I am working on a typeface tshirt that lets you choose your own message and font each day depending on your mood.
It uses liquid crystal technology printed onto the cotton tshirts.
You plug in a usb mini-keyboard to type your message and select your fonts each time you wear the shirt.I am of course, lying.

Well, the best designers only use a handful. And while clients don't care and the public doesn't know, they sense in a heartbeat the diligent crafting of good work by great firms for clients who know that good design does indeed sell. Show a client a BMW or Nike ad in a magazine laying around. Then turn to any poorly designed (type choice being a critical component) ad and they get it in a heartbeat. They sense the impression of Mom and Pop fly by night vs. a stalwart business they can trust.
- wow talking about a huuuuge budget difference, eh?janne76
- nike != next door painting companyjanne76
- Perhaps you could print that whole statement on a T-shirt, typo?pylon
- I see great designers to Nike quality work every day for small businesses. Money has nothing to do with it. The talent of the person pushing around the pixels does.typographyshop
- person pushing the pixels around is what matters.typographyshop
- do Nike quality work, I meant.typographyshop
- yes. but i mean, the painter company doesn't want me to spend over 200 bucks for Gotham.janne76
- they just say, Arial is free, use that.janne76
- i am talking about REALITY here, typoshop.janne76
- You were just talking about font prices? I misunderstood from the top apparently.typographyshop

i for one, wished only 8 fonts existed. it would make shit far less complicated.
aaaand, in the end most clients barely give a #.

We'll have plenty of typefaces (and their attendant fonts) down the road. What typeface designed in your lifetime would you like to see featured? And what might we improve about the display of them? Always appreciate constructive input from fellow designers. (And this is the first time on QBN that I've seen a string remain fairly civilized and polite. What's up with that?)
As far as the "this whole "typography is the end all, be all of design" needs to stop comment, would you say to a painter "this whole color obsession has to stop." Or to a musician that the obsession with notes must end?
I've had students who've said "I'm not really into type." I've told them to go become illustrators or photographers, not graphic designers. We exist not to make pretty pictures but to further words and ideas. If someone can't make those words properly represent the concept they need to learn more about type. Type, like a note in a painting or sonata is a conscious choice reflecting ones aesthetics and abilities as a designer.
The endless selection of faces we have available are a palette that musicians stuck with 8 notes would kill for. Or a web designer with 6 fonts, for that matter.

- I'd hate type too if I had to work with 6 bad typefaces everyday...neue75_bold
- don't make me cough up my coca cola all over your pretty username sweetumsa_iver

We've talked about putting out a shirt that says something to that effect. Typographic Hell. With those faces named below.typographyshop - a t-shirt that says just that with the faces you mentioned listed below.typographyshop

Ah yes, Grouch. I'm old enough to have set that on a typositor. These shirts are really sweet. I'm going to show these to a few people. These could be good for our site.
Write me at with a couple higher res images if you could. We also want to offer posters soon, so maybe that format could work too.

Found the American Apparel version on a group I run at flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fab…
- oh jeez... VERY similar... oh well, mine are different enough and based on a larger idea...neue75_bold

Well, he was wearing another design from another site I run. It was a ton of work removing it. We're long overdue for a photoshoot.
Any willing models in the Philadelphia area?

I really dig your AA shirts, though the San Serif one reminds me a bit of the American Apparel Helvetica shirts they did with several letters.
What is that second face? Is that an old ITC cut?
- someone has said this before but I have no idea what they were talking about.. even went in to AA last week andneue75_bold
- didn't see anything similar...
The second one is ITC Grouch..neue75_bold - although my posters have been floating around the web for over a year so AA might have ripped me ;)neue75_bold
- I wouldn't put it past them. Here in Philly we have Urban Outfitters who are so legendary for stealing from designers that someone launched a site called Urban Counterfeiters. I'll try and fnd the American Apparel shirt.typographyshop

We're going to be running a public contest soon. We're trying to formulate a fair general submission process that makes sure the designers continue to profit from their designs. The sticky thing we're worried about is someone submitting something similar to designs we've got in the queue already.
- threadless doesn't care that submissions were based on other submissions, they're rich. why would you?version3
- yes +1 it is a Paradox
http://www.newyorker…o_O - We don't want to be in the same boat as threadless and other contest sites who throw designers a few bucks or a few t-shirts and go on to sell it forever. We're working with designers we respect and want to treat as creatives making a living.typographyshop
- t-shirts and go on to print it forever. We want to work with designers we respect and want to see them rewarded.typographyshop

Are you looking for some additional helvetica designs for your website?

Thanks for the compliments. Type of zipper. It's a full length hidden zipper with a metal pull. The zipper appears not to be metal if that's what you're asking.
My printer says these are the best hoodies he's seen in years.
- dyspl0
usually not fan of thes kind of tshirts, but yours are quite nice.
- o_O0
what kind of zippers do you use? your answer will either make or break the sale of the hoodie.
- < he's not kidding
version3 - dear me, epee.detritus
- i just wondering if its a cheap-o or a YKK or a RIRI or a metal, or nylon...o_O

- or am i just purchasing a screen print on a hoodie made from american apparel?o_O
- sorry, i mean letterpress.o_O
- its also spoken about the eco friendly nature of the product so i am interested in the zips.o_O
- there is a lot of talk of eco friendly products lately, just wondering what it is here.o_O
