what is a versatile font do you use for Chinese characters and English?
- monospaced0
Well, since English is phonetic and is based on 26 basic characters and Chinese is based on thousands and thousands of pictographs, I would say that no such font exists.
On the other hand, I really don't know shit. Good luck.

Interesting question
Arial Unicode is the only Chinese capable font that includes all possible characters.
I've been working on a project for the past two months at work that is related to our proposal generation module for law firms. It was the first time we've used Asian characters, and we've learned a ton in the process. Not sure where I found it, and likely can't find it again, but that's where we found that Arial Unicode was the best to use. Sim Sun, PMingLIU, and some others are not full sets, so it substitutes other characters. Granted, this is for output in Word for print, but I figure the same principle applies to the web if that's what you're doing.
Arial Unicode is also a default system font. We ran into many issues with using SimSun at first, but I'm actually testing out the Arial Unicode issues now.

Please also keep in mind that there are two variations - Simplified and Traditional, and both have different purposes and mean different things to different people.

Get to deal with chinese copy now and then. I usually just copy the chinese text from the translator's word file, paste it in my layout and set it in a standard system chinese font. Easy really.

i think i could be suited to answering this question.
all chinese fonts have western characters in, but mostly as an afterthought. generally a nice chinese font will have the 70ish standard characters thrown in as arial, times or something nasty.
unicode font sets tend not to contain everything but the font style is not consistent - a nightmare if you're having to use chinese systems fonts across browsers.for print. set your type in what ever you want, then go back and change all english characters to a western font of your choice.
If you have huge amounts of content god help you. or out source to china where it's cheaper to have someone chinese help you. (possibly better than asking god to be honest.)- correction. "tend not to contain" = "tend to contain"mydo
