OK hipsters, what's with the '.' I can see how 'ol' wisely de-emphasises "online" but is there a precedent for "Aol."? or is this simply the shock of the new?
The whole thing just looks downmarket and amateurish to me. Unlike say, the London Olympics identity, which just looked bad.

I admire wolff olins and whomever is charged with presenting their identity work, cos that person is hugely talented.
- I'm thinking Peter Capaldi from "The Thick of it" (UK TV series). You'd have to intimidate your client to sign it off.comicsans

I presume the fish and blob stuff is just an example... The 'Aol.' mark can just sit over any image (if I read that article correctly). And the bleed into white space is what unites them all, which I spotted pretty quickly so must work.
I guess we'll just have to see how they implement it.

the "." really pulls it all together

aol has been wolffolinized.

HAHAHA...not sure what to think about this

It's hard to tell at this point, but this could be a smart campaign. Sure people will hate it, but unlike the Olympics logo, it's challenging your preconceptions in a way that reinforces their message.
I also like how they sent out the press releases with deliberately shitty images that they knew would piss people off.
Then again, it's 2:40 in the morning, so I might just need some sleep.

My latest HP work laptop was supplied with aol as the default home page in IE. While still affiliated with Time Warner, the front page was just littered with galleries of celebs in awkward situations and various stages of undress.
Clearly this is a company only capable of appealing to the lowest common denominator. I think the goldfish sorta describes the mentality of the average user quite well :)
- I thought they disappeared years ago, shit. hahapillhead

i propose a PS battle for the best Aol logo.

What a bold, daring statement from Aol. Going where no company has gone before, "haters gonna hate" must have been the brief.
