""The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance ... opens the way for actions of which no one can know the effects," said the signatories, who also included actresses Monica Bellucci and Tilda Swinton and directors David Lynch, Jonathan Demme, John Landis, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Wim Wenders."

I don't like witch-hunts or polarising arguments in terms of evil etc.. but Polanski did something that deserves a sentence. The only reason he's not in prison is because he's famous, rich and talented.
The way much of the media is dealing with this is ridiculous. I reckon the only difference between Polanski and Gary Glitter is talent. But how can talent be an excuse?
I'd like to think that most humans would agree that - morally - money shouldn't be used to unfairly influence due legal process, but in this case it almost seems like his talent is being used as a commodity to garner support.
And what the fck is it with the 'it happened so long ago' argument. In the case of other major crimes this argument wouldn't cut it.
Giving a 13 year old pills and alcohol constitutes abuse. Sex with 13 year old constitutes very serious abuse. But this guy raped a 13 year old - it doesn't get much worse.

Why some Hollywood ppl are backing him up?
We are all equal under the law!
He should come back to US and face his charges.
Beside his movies suck ass!
Just imagine you daughter, wife, sister or mom someone you love get rape...ok some of have dirty fantasy...so what you think of him now

"Funny that from an unattached observer's perspective those are all first world problems. In the third world (and in 1st world a century or three ago) 13 year olds get married on a daily basis, often to men over 20, just like it went on for millenia."
move to a "thirld" world country and try to marry a 13yo, ahahah
so much bias

Just read with interest that a bunch of Hollywood celebrities have signed a petition "demanding" Polanski be released from jail. Among the petitioners, Woody Allen. LOL

I guess the concept of passing time was lost on all the Polanski haters up here. Since the crime happened 30 (let me spell it for you, thirty!), you do realize that you are not talking about something that happened last week but of something that happened over a quarter of century ago - and the victim has long ago forgiven him.
And to those of you who are talking about fairness, please before you speak out try to get some facts straight -- the reason why he wouldn't get a fair trail is exactly because he was famous.

couldn't they just sent a bounty hunter after this scumbag.

^ As far as I understand he PLED GUILTY then bounced. That deserves a sentence.
Anyone else woulda done their time. He got away and was able to stay away because he has money.
- well, he fooled the judge also.akrokdesign
- bro, i don't even know where to start to straighten your skewed perspective.pr2
- skewed? shut up. don't lecture me about the legal system. i know it all too well.sublocked
- from the way you speak i'm surprised there is even access to electricity in the backwoods...pr2
- ...where you live.pr2
- I'm sorry pr2. You're so advanced and forward thinking. Who am I to challenge your statements? lolsublocked
- you are not even challenging anything. all you do is screaming like a baby.pr2

"They were among 138 people in the film industry who signed a petition against the arrest."
WFT! is wrong with them. should ask them if they would leave their own kid/teen with polanski over the weekend. hm.

Michael Deacon from the Daily Telegraph yesterday:
Having blogged about Roman Polanski’s arrest, I reread an extraordinary interview Polanski gave to the novelist Martin Amis in 1979, the year after Polanski went on the run.
The interview originally appeared in Tatler and is collected in Amis’s excellent book Visiting Mrs Nabokov.
Here’s a section of the first quote it contains from Polanski.
“If I had killed somebody, it wouldn’t have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But... f—ing, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to f— young girls. Juries want to f— young girls. Everyone wants to f— young girls!”
Thirty years have passed since Polanski said those words, so he’s had time to reconsider them. Whether he’s actually done so, we don’t yet know. Perhaps he still thinks it’s true that everyone fancies little girls, and that the press was exaggerating the enormity of his crime, and that all this somehow excuses his behaviour.
Later in the interview, Polanski says he likes Paris, to which he’d fled, because it’s “very grown-up”.
Unlike the 13-year-old girl with whom he admitted having unlawful sex.

He's a fucking predator parasite who sodomised a 13 year old girl and then fled the country prior to sentencing. Fleeing is a criminal offence in itself.
To all you people who think we should just move on, what if he had sodomised your daughter? Would you still feel the same way?
Fuck me...
- so if my daughter was raped and after moving on with her life i asked you not to open up old wounds, would you still do it?pr2
- pr20
everyone here understands that "pleading guilty" often doesn't actually mean that someone is guilt but rather that the person has the cards stacked against him thus going to trail and fighting for "what's right" might cause a way more serious jail sentences than pleading guilty and doing lesser time, right???
- he's still a pedo.akrokdesign
- pr2 shut the fuck up and sit down.sublocked
- Thank you PR I was just about to write the same. Prosecutor needs a success. It's not a system that always promotes justice.raf
