i keep thinking about this lately. everything is just kind of lame. these are TOTALLY first world problems. But I guess I'm speaking from a cultural/artistic point of view. And I know I will sound like a 15 yr old. But heres what makes me flip in 09:
-people facebooking
-people twittering
-music in general isn't very inspiring. bands in every genre seems like a watered down version of its past. theres definitely a lot of good stuff out there, but the overall attitude towards everything is just kind of dull.
-too many "photographers"the list goes on.

in fact, the "watered down" notion seems to pertain to a lot of things. take a random example like michel gondry. people just aren't fascinated with him as they were before. after 4-5 feature films he just seems like a parody of himself. And do people even care about music videos anymore? there are still a lot of good stuff out there but i don't really hear people talk about it as much as before.

I agree with you - im 25 years old and I feel like Ive seen/experienced everything Im going to experience – except maybe TRUE loss... Even if that's the case, its certainly nothing to look forward too...
Graphic design has become a throw-away budget expense, music is whatever the execs. tell us it is, and fine-art is controlled by a select number of people that give us redundant artists that seem the create art that is more masturbatory in its intent than genuine...
It all makes me wish I was a bottom-line architect like my Father...

i think there's loads of new stuff out there it justs gets hidden and you gotta look a bit harder for it. Old bands don't retire anymore they waddle zombie like across festivals taking over press squaking their tired back catalogue,,, but the new stuff is there and older dudes still doing it without dredging up their past.
gf is going here today, big double festival in UK, all old shite (well nearly) told her I wouldn't go listen to those creaky old gits being rebels on a non smoking stage.
http://www.vfestival.com/lineupi'm just bitter cause i gotta work again

oh yea don't get me wrong I'm pretty ridiculous when it comes to going to shows and all things undiscovered. But thats actually one of the reasons that contributed to my thoughts about music in general now. i go to see alot of really small shows in diy venues in bkln, and very seldom would a band be overwhelmingly impressive. i would go and have a really great time, but in the end its probably not about the music.
i can go on about details but no one should care.

said with due respect, not a personal attack:
maybe you need to change you're life. sounds like you're placing the whole value of the year on externals. the year is effectively 'your year' to you. if your year blows then you have to do something about it.
facebook and twitter = who gives a fuck. if you don't like them then don't join or read 'em. they're here. you might as well rail against 'people who use bic pens' as a political stand.
music in general = there's a shit load out there. how about you get off your arse and find some that you do like. it's going to take more effort that an itunes recommended list or rolling stone magazine to give you all the answers.
too many photographers = wtf? really. i'd have thought 'too many pedos' but maybe that's just me. possibly you need to get out of your rut and stop being a curmudgeon at a young age.
just my 2 cents, i'm probably wrong.

and if you're 25 and feel you've seen it all you're fucked. pull your head from your rectum and get out of your comfort zone. try going on a world trip. travel through europe in a vw van. go run with the bulls in spain. visit the hobbit hill in new zealand. ffs, there's a limitless amount of places, people and culture to see and do (you can see and do people so that list gets doubled) so stop being a girly-man and get off your anus.
remember, after 20 it's no longer teen-angst. it's just being a miserable fuck. the cache of cool wears down on the whole 'i'm so bored with the world' from early 20 on.
again, just my 2 cents.

i agree, airey, thats why i thought about not raising this issue at all here. it just sounds like another boring jaded emo guy ranting about the flavor of ice cream on the internet while children are dying of aids.
i think the reason why i felt the need is because i have nothing else to do on a friday night.

maybe you're looking in the wrong places for the wrong things. i hate facebook and twitter too, which is why i don't use them or ever follow activity on them. don't like music that's coming out? look for better music. there's plenty of good shit going on in punk and post rock right now.
too many photographers is a fallout from photography becoming less of a craft and more of a hobby because douchebags can use lightroom instead of a darkroom. it's an unfortunate consequence of technology. i have a master's in photojournalism but i don't call myself a "photographer," i just take pictures and let other people mind their own business.
a lot of problems with culture right now are spawning from people joining groups (twitter, flickr, tumblr) and then trying to spawn off and be "individuals" - parallel to how clothing companies try and tell you to "become an individual" by selecting a variety of their garments to fit your personal style.
if you don't like what the world has to offer, tell it to fuck off and do it yourself. there is good shit out there. not a lot, but it's there and it wants to be found.
