K, in a divergence from 'get a mac', why are you getting a laptop? You'll get a lot more bang for your buck, mang.
I don't have any suggestions for your price range, beyond 'beware Dell' - I've never had one personally, but a couple of friends have Dells and seem to suffer nothing but problems with them.

yeah, so maybe going 16" is a good idea. i'm not sure what your price range is, but these may be a couple good solutions for you:
($1300.00 US)

I second Toshiba... but sincerelly i´ve not got any problem with dells, leaving apart of his plastics poor quality.

yeah I know what you mean, my transport issues I thinkthough are mainly ones of carting it about from city to city to couch to couch over teh next few months, or I'd probably just get a desktop.
this is why I was tempted by the 16" - good compromise between screen res and portability.
Thing is also that I will buy a flatscreen to plug it into eventually once I'm settled so it may be a moot point

I have this, comes with 4gb ram, bluray player, pretty fast,
only down point is the screen wich is the best I've used so far but is gloss, I can't fuckn work outside.
Give me mate screens or give me death!!!

0- I like the look of it but it seems to be about a third more expensive over here and out of budget by £200 :(kelpie

also, do you really want to purchase something as big as a 17"? unless you are never going to unplug it from a wall jack, i would think a 15" would be much more suitable for transport.

hello
I am buying a new laptop in the next few weeks, one which I hope to work on pretty extensively in the near future and was hoping maybe some folks here would be able to advise me on a good way to go with this
was thinking possibly a sony?
http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/Show…or a dell studio 17" I found refurbed
or maybe a dell XPS 16 but that's a bit out of my price range
any ideas? I'm thiking a budget of around 500 give or take a bit and will NOT be buying a mac. To clarify: I like macs, but they are too expensive and I need reasonable screen space.
once again, *I will not be buying a mac*
anyone help me out? any experience of these machines or ideas of different ones I could go with?
cheers muchly for any help
