Hello Kelpie, I would suggest talking to a paper supplier. Cut sheet newsprint is hard to come by, particularly at that size, and also its not great for sheet fed litho because its quite thin and also has no torsional strength so it just pulls apart at the grip and wraps round the rollers.
But there is a cut sheet stock that is a bit thicker than newsprint and it looks like newsprint... only I have completely forgotten its name. Its called Poplux, or Popsomething... a good paper merch would know. Sorry I can't tell you, I kick myself for not writing it down.

thanks spooks, I might expand this question a bit to paper in general.
I'm looking for something low cost, which is light and pretty low fi, that can be printed on double sided (not bothered about print through, actually quite attracted to the idea), which will take 1 colour printing and fold up from a large size (lets say A1 rather than 0) down to tabloid or broadsheet size.
Newsprint sprang to mind, but I may be off mark thinking its cheap or even suitable for the job. But a newsprint-esque quality is what I'm after (its the thinness and translucence), even if the weave of it is a bit tighter and the surface a bit closer to "proper" paper stocks...
any bright ideas? I'm not a print guy so my paper knowledge is quite limited, I will be talking to paper suppliers and printers about this, but I'd like to go into those conversations armed with some knowledge, they aren't easy chats if you're not experienced at this stuff...
thank you very much all for any help you might be willing to provide

Kelpie, you could try something light, like a McNaughtons Challenger 50gsm. It'll take the ink but because of the weight it'll still be translucent.
Sheet size is 450 x 640 mm
Cheap as chips.

Or if you want more of a recycled news print feel, try the Cyclus Offset 70gsm its heavier than the challenger and has more bulk because its recycled but has more of the look of newsprint. Should also be fairly cost effective.
- did this too, 70mg makes any printer able to print it..neverblink

No worries, let us know how you get on, likesey.

how many are you printing? there's an online printer that does newsprint stuff, quite reasonable as well once you're looking at around 1000...

I've printed a 'real' newspaper once at a rotationpress, same place as where they print 'Metro' in the Netherlands. No problem, they send you the distiller options so no horrorscenario's exporting.

Starting fom 5000 I think.- that's pretty low for a rotation-press.. last time I contacted one min. was 25.000neverblink

incidentally, I have no idea about numbers yet - this is a potential quarterly self promo thing, a kind of newsletter full of our articles and our better blog posts, in a folding up large format thing that can be tacked to awlls but also distributed to clients etc, hence cost being massively important. I guess the numbers will be whatever is most economical in real terms.
