Nothing here yet, I think everyone in digital feels that more above the line work will shift to cheaper alternatives such as digital work.
Not sure if this is the case but I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

At one of my old companies, half of us got told to come into a room we sat down and they said we are closing you guys are being kept on to finish existing jobs off.
Then the other half of the company got asked to go in after we left the room and they were told they had one hour to get out of the building!!!! it was nuts people were panicking and grabbing all their tapes and things from the library (I work in TV) and it was horrible to watch, this was in the days before you had firewire 800 and cheap drives so any data was taking forever to copy and folk were shouting and pushing each other out the way, the library looked like someone had just pushed all the shelves down and folk were pulling up in their cars to try to get as many tapes in as possible. This was in 2003 since that day I have always looked after my main money commitments and fingers crossed kept enough backups so that if things go tits up I have at least got most of my work at home.

i'm freelancing at a full service agency in new york but they mainly do pharmaceutical clients... plenty of high paying work in this industry if you can get it.
- Maybe, maybe not. My health care-only interactive agency just went through a roundXB12

I don't work at an agency but know many who do. One of the bigger ones here in Michigan just cut about 40% overnight. Sad.

I now have to do the jobs that we would usually farm out to freelancers, I also have been given all the print work and lovely job of sys-admin for looking after our servers, emails and domains.
Lovely.
Just call me Donkey.

WORKPLACE VIOLENCE DURING A SEVERE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN
Are You Prepared?A grim triple-homicide in Silicon Valley late last week tells the story. A recently laid-off product test
engineer allegedly walked into the small firm that had just terminated him and opened fire on the chief
executive officer, VP of operations and head of human resources. Sadly, these kinds of incidents inevitably accompany business downturns and subsequent layoffs such as the nation has been experiencing.
The stakes are high and workplace liabilities very real.More than ever, companies are looking for flexible and effective strategies to minimize the emotional and physical risks associated with all the stunning economic contractions. While contending with an increase in disgruntled employees and concerned shareholders and attempting to instill corporate confidence, businesses are also juggling the reality of increased security threats to managers and executives.
Does your company have a plan?WHAT CONSTITUTES A BALANCED, EFFECTIVE WORKPLACE STABILITY PROGRAM?
HAVE YOU ESTABLISHED A RELATIONSHIP WITH AN EXPERIENCED WORKPLACE VIOLENCE CONSULTING AND SECURITY PROVIDER?
IF AN INCIDENT STRIKES TOMORROW, ARE YOU PREPARED?
Even the most thorough risk management and security planning will be challenged by catastrophic circumstances. There are predicable and unpredictable events that must be taken into account in the execution of a comprehensive system – including contingencies for rapid communication and response when the unexpected occurs.
It’s critical for corporations to develop methods for identifying factors that may lead to violence, implement controls to reduce the risks and have established relationships in order to respond appropriately should an incident occur. The benefits are clear:
Risk reduction
Improved employee morale
Increased feelings of security
Enhanced supervisory skills
Early identification of issues
Business cost reduction
Improved capability to resolve conflicts in positive manner
Reduced legal liability
Preservation of reputation and investor relations
OSHA compliance- I just got this email.Khurram

-BBDO cut around 150 creatives
-Campbell-Ewald is allegedly making cuts as well
-Team Detroit (J. Walter Thomspon, Ogilvy+Mather, Wunderman) are all making cuts too
-word on the street is Organic will be making some heavy cutssmaller studios/boutiques:
-most are breaking even from what I hear
-not a lot of hiring going on right now - a very competetive marketgenerally speaking:
-places that aren't reliant upon automotive are doing fine - even those that are are branching out to broader markets

this weekend to what i had thought was a big bonus and raise in my account ended up being severance pay and my entire design team including me was let go.. this is from a company that boasts its 1.2 billlion dollars in sales... they arent even hurting. i was told that my Taipei "Partners" will be able to do my job and those of my team and they wont have to pay out the NYC EXTREME Salaries, since they have a design team of 65 talented designers who can manage my work load.
thus im out, and so is 24 other designers from our New York Office.
overall im extremely happy... for some weird reason and i look forward to the hustle and to making new and stronger contacts.
good luck everyone!!

Growing here (Edmonton, AB), no signs of downsizing. Just left a bustling agency (20 people) for another (10 people) with tons of work & new clients.

All these layoffs sounds scary.

i work at a university. There's more security than in the corporate world, so I'm very lucky in that regard. Freelancing has been very busy, but I think I need a break. I may lay myself off for a month or two.
