At one of my old companies, half of us got told to come into a room we sat down and they said we are closing you guys are being kept on to finish existing jobs off.
Then the other half of the company got asked to go in after we left the room and they were told they had one hour to get out of the building!!!! it was nuts people were panicking and grabbing all their tapes and things from the library (I work in TV) and it was horrible to watch, this was in the days before you had firewire 800 and cheap drives so any data was taking forever to copy and folk were shouting and pushing each other out the way, the library looked like someone had just pushed all the shelves down and folk were pulling up in their cars to try to get as many tapes in as possible. This was in 2003 since that day I have always looked after my main money commitments and fingers crossed kept enough backups so that if things go tits up I have at least got most of my work at home.

^ that's true. At my company, they laid everyone off on Friday afternoon. Cheeky!
- robco0
I heard that friday is the best day to lay people off because statistically speaking they have less of a chance of flipping out.

3 people laid off this morning out of about 60. 1 Senior Designer and 2 PM's. They even said more to come after the Holidays.

We laid off 6 people yesterday :\ very sad
Hopefully that was enough to make it through the holidays and then work will pickup

i work at a university. There's more security than in the corporate world, so I'm very lucky in that regard. Freelancing has been very busy, but I think I need a break. I may lay myself off for a month or two.

I don't work at an agency but know many who do. One of the bigger ones here in Michigan just cut about 40% overnight. Sad.

We're actually growing and hiring.

Nothing here yet, I think everyone in digital feels that more above the line work will shift to cheaper alternatives such as digital work.
Not sure if this is the case but I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)
