"nothings perfect when implementing a change" that one phrase covers giving the thumbs up to death squads and oppression...
All good to you right?
Hey, so a bunch of peasants got wiped off the earth - the GDP grew a bit and the rich got richer. Fuck it, you gotta break a few eggs so Margaret Thatcher pats me on the bum and says "Job well done, mate."
- this is still not anything related to what I was speaking of at the beginning. Their are atrocities throughout the history of mankind... so this is nothing new and relevant to what I was discussing about the here and now.whhipp

Moral fabric decay:
Nearly $3M for 'wrongful birth' suit
A couple was awarded almost $3 million in a "wrongful birth" lawsuit after their daughter was born with Down syndrome.

Not sure what this has to do with "Politics" but it's a pretty sad story in any event.
I saw this on the local news and it hits pretty close to home. My wife and I just had a baby 9 months ago to the day at the exact same hospital and went through all those "high risk" tests ourselves.
The doctors were perfectly clear that no problematic signs were apparent but these test are not 100% correct all the time. We even had to sign some legal papers saying were were aware that even because all test were negative there still is a slight chance something could be wrong. I'm not sure if this paper work was a result of this lawsuit but I agree this is a flagrant lawsuit. It's not the hospital or doctors fault. BTW our baby is perfectly healthy but if any problems did arise during the pregnancy it would be our legal choice on how to handle the situation not some holier than thou right wing prick that thinks my morals are decaying.- appreciate your comment. but i do not come from a holier than thou perspective... your blind assumption.whhipp
- i'm thinking there was negligence that goes beyond what you are describinglocustsloth
- Otherwise i don't think the case would have flown

You act as though taking care of a Downs kid is the same as taking care of a regular kid. Parents either have to quit their jobs or hire outside, specialized, help in order to care for the child. The costs are enormous, both financially and emotionally, and last for the lifetime of the child if not longer.
The reasons those tests exist is so people can be prepared for what's coming. It's not like they're dumping the kid and pocketing the money. That money is likely going to go to caring for this person for the REST OF THEIR LIVES.- @whhipplocustsloth
- problem lies with where does it end? what perceived abnormality is acceptable? any? and what message is sent to the ones that are alive with these conditions?whhipp
- to the ones that are alive with these conditions?whhipp
- it's not a matter of whether people with these conditions are valid people, it's whether the parents can give them the support that they needlocustsloth
- support they need, both monetarily and emotionallylocustsloth
- Guarantee you there are kids with these conditions who suffer things as bad as abuse because of the emotional and financial toll it takes on the parent. Wouldn't they have been better served with informed and willing parents?locustsloth
- it takes on the parent. Wouldn't they have been better served with informed and willing parents?locustsloth
- so all these parents deserve a 3 million payout? This is 1 of the reasons our health careis so expensive!fooler
- what happens when we can detect if a child will be born gay or not? from what you say-parents would have the right to end it.whhipp
- end it.whhipp
- wow.DrBombay
- LOL... comparing gays to down syndrome HAHAHAHAHAfooler
- hey its someones challenge isnt it?whhipp
- be true to your statements... its everyones choice for what they will feel is challenging or unfit in their own eyes.whhipp
- having a gay child doesn't require thousands of dollars for it to survivelocustsloth
- Besides, the slippery slope arguement is always BS fear mongeringlocustsloth
- fooler, they only get a payout because of whatever malfeasance occurred, not JUST because of the Downslocustsloth

Why Libertarians are symptomatic of what's wrong with America

I'm not arguing wether or not it is ok to abort a "Downs". I am arguing the fashion in which the decision is made. A test given by a doctor that is stated up front that these tests are not 100% accurate. What if it was the other way around in this case? The test came out positive, but the test was wrong... ooops!... right, we never know because that child is dead now.
And if we are basing the morality to abort a child on the cost of the care of it... that's is the argument I hear so far, all I have to say is wow! So its ok for a couple to decide to abort triplets because it's a very unexpected and costly scenario as well, especially for a young couple just starting a family?
But, of course this is a failed argument out the gate, right? Because you all will argue that the woman has the choice no matter what... so what have you all been arguing about anyways?
The real argument is that the morality of putting the onus on the hospital/doctor to determine if your child is fit enough to be born and ultimately be the most responsible party for test results that are stated to be not 100% accurate is ridiculous. It is ultimately on the couple who engage in creating a family- everyone goes into it knowing that there are risks... if it was that important to them to not have a "Downs" child they should have gone to the measures to make completely sure, maybe 3-5 tests from different labs etc.

Romney muddles on
Romney, who finished a disappointing third in both states despite the presence of two rivals dividing the right, will face renewed questions about his difficulty appealing to the core of the GOP and will be on the spot to score a win in Illinois next week.
Even more important, the establishment favorite needs to explain why, two-and-a-half months into the primary season, he can’t seem to put away underfunded rivals who are viewed by many in the party as general election disasters.

This has to be from the Onion doesn't it?
A proposed new law in Arizona would give employers the power to request that women being prescribed birth control pills provide proof that they're using it for non-sexual reasons.
