yeah, i think that healthcare should operate more as a business. i think that that kind of mentality would do wonders for the level of care and the cost of buying healthcare on the open market. i know i keep going back to the atlantic article, but he put it so succinctly. how would a hospital react to handing a bill to a family member for $600,000 of care for a patient that died as a result of their negligence vs sending that same bill off to some accountant at medicare? would that be good for business? i'm not in favor of fatcats sucking up profits and driving up costs, but i am in favor of instituting some type of common business sense in healthcare, which seems to be totally lacking if you look at it from a customer experience standpoint.
would it make sense to go to the grocery store, make a list of everything you need, go home, submit that list to an insurance company, wait to see what's covered on the list and how much, then go back and buy the approved items? is that efficient business? fuck no.

    • well put.robotron3k
    • oddly enough it's THIS thinking which creates death panels, bc you apply money standards to human valueTheBlueOne
    • And your last statement is EXACTLY the system now, so I don't get your point.TheBlueOne
    • Or have you never had to been seriously ill or had major surgery and just not know this?TheBlueOne
    • I blew out my knee, had coverage but then had to submit all my rehab bills to insurance company and then was thrilled when they said it wasn't covered.TheBlueOne
    • they said I could get five rehab session. Five? Oh thanks Private Insurance Death Panel.TheBlueOne
    • I had to pay thousands out of pocket for rehab, even though I paid thousands over the years for my coverage. Great fucking system.TheBlueOne
    • system.TheBlueOne
    • Shouldn't have blown out your knee then. Also, your knee isn't worth thousands to fix? Cut your leg of then Lawrence.AngryMob
    • i'm not at all advocating keeping the current system. i'm not sure why you and rick keep inferring that from my posts.johndiggity
    • however i'm vehemently opposed to the current health bill, as i don't know how it will accomplish what it purports to do.johndiggity
    • do, and neither does the president or congress it seems.johndiggity
    • @john Yeah it does seem a bit juryrigged, I'll grant you that.TheBlueOne

I just plain and simply want the insurance companies to be consolidated into one or several companies , they had their fun in the sun , frankly I want them all to just get written off , say look in 2011 your done , dont pay taxes keep whatver you want see ya when I see ya , wishful thinking call it whatever, but looking at the bank roll that was posted a few post back , who will be crying?

what about the lonley data entry lady or bill the mailroom guy , a nice sverence check or jack shit but they won't have to worry about expesens for health care

the idea pf profit , money , for helping is sick , oh providers will tank it and service will suck, why, you are in the business of helping, if you too are in it for the money , good fucking riddence, free market you want to say, well my life is not on the market ..so fuck off

  • ukit0

Well I think the argument on which is better is sort of settled. If you look at countries across the world the ones that have universal health care have lower costs and better results in terms of lifespan and overall health. Even South Korea which someone cited early as an example of a successful market-based system has mandatory universal coverage and government subsidies (which may be where we are headed with the Democrat plan).

So it's kind of weird to be arguing that a free market system is cheaper and more efficient when you have actual statistics you can look at, telling you that it really isn't.

That's not to say the U.S. system doesn't have it's advantages. We have more innovation than many of these countries with a greater government role, which is no small thing. But to argue that a single payer system (which is off the table), or even a hybrid public option system would sink health care is a little silly since the evidence is overwhelming that it works.

  • ukit0

Seriously guys...the Israelis have a longer life expectancy than us.

  • ukit0

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uni…

"Universal health care is health care accessibility for all eligible residents of a political region and often covers medical, dental and mental health care. Typically, costs are borne in the majority by government-funded programs.

"Single-payer health insurance" is used to describe the primary systems of health care funding used in Canada and the United Kingdom. Multi-payer systems are used in France and Germany, but like Canada and the United Kingdom, health care in both of these countries is primarily financed by publicly controlled insurers.

Health care systems vary according to the extent of government involvement in providing care, ranging from nationalized health care systems (such as the U.K. and Sweden) to decentralized private or non-profit institutions (as in Germany and France). Universal health care is implemented in ALL INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES, with the exception of the United States."

  • BattleAxe0

it should also be noted that countries considered developing countries also have some form of universal public health care,

so again , money is made the issue but is really not

  • AngryMob0

I love it how "Lawrence" (aka BlueOne) whines about the out of pocket cost to rehabilitate his knee.

You shouldn't have blown out your knee then Lawrence. You know, be a little bit more careful?

Also, isn't your knee worth the thousands to fix? After all, one's fucking legs are slightly important to one's fucking life (especially one who spends allot of time on one's knees, like Lawrence).

Anyhow, if you're so bitter about your "expenses", then cut your fucking legs off Lawrence and spare us the cry-baby shit.

    Drill baby drill

So, as Asswipe Obama turns a deaf ear to drilling domestically, he just sent $2B of YOUR taxpayer dollars to Brazil to support their regional offshore drilling operations? Fucking loon.

Oh, and it's just a coincidence that George Soros is a major shareholder in said brazilian oil company? Fuck no. No coincidence.

So, how does that make you lefties honestly feel. Do you even give a fuck?

for real, you are 8 to 112 different kinds of pathetic, I am gonna put you in the 75th'ish section.. but to be sure, you run the gamut.

  • TheBlueOne0

Oh yeah, you got me. Yup. Wrapped in a flag. Wow, I must look like a retard or something to you, right? No, go on and laugh. 'Cause at heart you're a bully. Plain and fucking simple.

You know, Will, from day one as GetRefresh, than as fuckQBN, and now AngryMob you're just been an aggressive, insulting asstard. You don't and seem unable to discuss politics, although you are quote good at inflammatory language. You think saying things like homo, libtard, commie, pinko, etc. is "discussing politics". And then people respond back to you in kind, and you think it validates your opinion as a victim of "them liberals".

Sad, so many think like you. We're seeing 'em on tv everyday.

Brother, I spent plenty of years in the NYC crossover scene back in the 80's and early 90's and dealt with my fair share of skinhead racist dicks. I don't cotton very much to someone calling me shit like homo, pinko, etc. Very low threshold for that kind of shit. You don't even KNOW my politics, you just have assumptions about what you think I believe, and you stop there. And on top of it you've shown quite clearly that my opinions are at best worthy of your ridicule.

At one point I did engage you seriously, tried to engage your point of view and you just came back with the insults and the stupid political namecalling.

    Whatever.

So you get what you give brother. But I see you like to whine about it and can't even see you brought the response you received on yourself.

And what gets me dude, is that on these other sites you run you have a TOTALLY different persona. Completely. And here you feel liberated to be an insulting jackass?

    Total fake.

    Fake ass bully.

You're not the only person here who has conservative points of view, and I seem to get along fine with them. If you can't see that you're the problem, well then....

And the "lawrence" bit? brother, it's not even funny.

If you got anything else to say to me, let's not stink up the thread or qbn with our petty bullshit, eh? You got my email, email me.

  • ukit0

Hey man you are so wrong he is this Brian Donnelly.

    http://www.briandonnelly.org/pai…

And look he painted a picture of you too - bottom row, second from the left. At least, I think that's what you'd call someone who gets THIS f*cking upset (I mean, serious LOL if it wasn't so scary) on a messageboard, that isn't even about politics in the first place.

I don't know if you noticed but the rest of us hang out here cause we like to talk about design and bullshit with each other. There are a few interested in politics, but what weird motherfucker only posts in the Politics thread on a design site?

And to get this angry over shit, which you are pathetically misinformed on, at people you never met, but you come back day after day? Is it a coping mechanism?

I'm thinking back to Psychology 101 in college...OK my professor didn't use this language but I think they said that would be someone who's got some serious, unresolved issues in their own, real, actual life, but who is too much of a pussy to deal with them.

  • AngryMob0

    *Googles: 80s-90s NYC crossover scene

Haha-fucking hahaha!!! Oooh, you were a thrash metal guy. Is that where you learned to "skull fuck" a motherfucker?

Yo, Donnelly, fuck all that and fuck you. And fuck your little following around here too. Ukit, Rand, BonSeff and the rest of you cunt holes.

  • deathboy0

i like angrymob, he can call my mom a whore slut bitch for all i care. he has that right. unless he tried to ahrm her then id have to rip out his throat. regardless he does make points even if he throws insults afterwards. alot of time tossing an insult afterwards is a nice strategy to see if the people are smart enough to see the point, or just focus on the insult. the rational people usually see right through it. the irrational emotional take aim at the insult instead of whats important. it is a fact that government healthcare is an attack on individual liberty. there is no argument there. is it possibly sustainable... only with eugenics if that possible as an option but that too is an attack on individual liberty. if its in place it cannot be removed and will bring the entire country down with it or lead to a lenin style gov. collapse. since people are typiclaly not smart enough to give up somethign for free and pay for it even if it means there destruction becuase they have been taught in a society that shit is handed to them. its not rocket science its common sense plainly and objectively aside from emotional or irrational whims. what should be the focus is on how to make a private system better. cutting some government fat and reopening a free market. becuase regardless what the politicans say we havent had a free market in a long time. who here beleives it is a free market that has failed us? if u believe that go back in hsitory and also check what litigation is in place that helps certian companies grow and stifles competition. i dotn know what colleges today are teaching but our new so called intellectual breed are nothign but cattle for the slaughter, i blame this rise in pragmatism and denouncing of a fact value distinction with all these gray areas and nothign is right or worng sense...(may not apply directly here but its a culprit of this retarded ill logic everyone has going, and the denying of reality). peopel are buyign into the insurance crap as the culprit. its not the culprit, sure it plays a small part, but lots of thigns do. the numebr one thing though is exponential growth and costly technology that allows peopel to live longer while not producing a dime. if that stays medicare/ss will be doomed. quit listenign to your tv channels that support your views and do soem critical thinking. and for once think about the "is" instead of the "ought".

    • C'mon dude seriously...the guy is over 40 and can barely spit out a complete sentenceukit
    • im not standing by everythign he says. dotn care about age. and ive seen soem common sense talk that goes ignoreddeathboy
    • becuase of the insults. i hate seeing common sense ignored becuase peopel get worked up on insultsdeathboy
