Even if Obama has his flaws and is part and parcel with the status quo in many ways we still have a better chance to get good policy with Obama than we do with Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin.
Rather than throw your hands up in disgust, why not do research on a cause you care about and do something that actually moves the ball forward. Call your Congressman/ woman/ child and yell at them, fund a politician you think is decent, put up a website, write a blog post, etc.
Or do you not care enough to do that? Well, then you can't really complain, can you?;)

AngryMob: Wrong Again
" DETROIT (AP) -- Higher sales, in part from the government's Cash for Clunkers program, are spurring General Motors Co. to boost production at several of its factories.
The automaker said Tuesday it will add 60,000 vehicles to its production in the third and mainly the fourth quarter. It will also bring back about 1,350 laid-off workers in the U.S. and Canada."

What was that about this program being a FAIL? What was it about only helping those "racist Japanese"?
Wrong again, superstar.

Insurance is the major culprit in this debate. It is the underlying thing in all of this. People talk about a big reason why medical costs are so high is because Doctors need to have millions of dollars in Insurance in order to practice. While Health Insurance doesn't pay for pre-existing conditions and look for any reason not to cover their customers or raise rates in the event of a catastrophic medical condition.
If I were in the business of both health insurance and insuring Doctors against malpractice, I could be making money of off all of yall and fighting to not pay anything to anyone.
It is a completely rigged business.
- totally.mikotondria3
- and why do those doctors need millions in insurance?deathboy

i think the idea of insurance needs to be re-evaluated. like it said in the article from the atlantic i posted earlier, you wouldn't expect to pay for gas or oil changes for your car with your auto insurance, yet we do the very same thing with health insurance.
what about offering catastrophic health insurance for major illness/accidents and require everyone to have coverage? replace medicare/medicaid deductions with mandatory minimum contributions to hsa's that fund all routine exams/checkups. set a minimum contribution amount/balance for everyone based on age. allow people to borrow against future contributions to cover anything that exceeds their hsa balance in the event of emergency surgery. have the government directly write or underwrite these loans. make procedure costs transparent and comparable. allow the market to drive costs down and quality up.

^ dude, people are poor, preventative care is a foreign concept. no matter what the age. the BIGGEST part of the reform is clueing in the populous about availability, preventative care comes closely behind education, sadly
- BonSeff0
also, to your first sentence, every state demands you insure your automobile. but not every individual.
think about that.

people are not poor in the us. we have the seventh highest per-capita income in the world. i don't think people realize how much of their pay goes to medicare because it's gone before you see it. take the money for medicare and deposit it in their hsa. no more use-it-or-lose-it mentality to healthcare, which leads to extraneous spending and falsely manipulates the health services market.
and if you are spending YOUR money as opposed to your insurance company's co-pay, you are going to be a lot more informed about the choices you make with your healthcare expenditures, so is everyone else, and so are healthcare providers.
and yes everyone should have mandatory catastrophic insurance. the premiums will not be that high with everyone paying in. shit does not happen to everyone all the time.

the answer is simple: stop blowing 50% of the budget on the military and you have plenty for health care and better public education.

I work at a newspaper/magazine publishing company and I get editorials and letters to the editor emailed to me all of the time. Got this one today:
As one listens to the Republican anger over health care reform, one can imagine an anti-government protester cheerfully paying premiums on insurance policies that cancel you for making a claim, or happily sauntering out of an emergency room that denied them treatment because of a coverage problem. One can imagine a town-hall sign-waver enthusiastically forking over most of their pay to bill collectors after suffering a catastrophic injury, thinking, “Wow, the free market system is great.”
No, Republicans are just as affected by health care inequities as anyone else, especially the working class Republicans who show up armed and dangerous at America’s town hall meetings on the topic. The accounts of denial of health care that were a part of last year’s campaign? It wasn’t only Democrats who talked of losing loved ones due to the shenanigans of insurance companies. Republicans, too, cried real tears at the injustices.
So what’s this all about then? The down-with-government shrieking at the town hall meetings, the gun-toting visits to Obama events, the insistence that Obama’s health care reform is inspired by the devil himself? It’s about shock. The shock of no longer being in power. Every President since JFK has been either conservative or a Southerner. Every single one. These folks have had it their way for decades. And they don’t want to share.
This letter may be freely printed or posted.- why do they get emailed to you? do you write for the newspaper?sigg
- What difference does it make?DrBombay
