Michael Keaton, and Val Kilmer both stopped being Batman saying that the villains were becoming more of the story with Batman taking a backseat. Now, may both have said stuff like that after they were already off their respective projects - but you can already see it kind of happening.
I think that's why I liked Batman Begins so much, it was mostly Batman - and I still really like the Dark Knight, I just fear that the next one is already going to be villain'd up - and they need to keep Bale's Bruce Wayne viable.
Being that Nolan is the man though, I think he'll make sure that Batman doesn't become an ancillary character in his own movie. I sure hope not.
- Agreed. I didn't mind it as much in this film, as Joker is one of my fave villains. Bruce needs more development.Jaline
- I mean, if we're comparing notes on previous films and characters, that is. Not saying he didn't have any development.Jaline
- development, in general.Jaline
- Double agreed.flavorful
- next Villan will be Bales MomBattleAxe

Haha, I love the way the Joker walked, it was really noticeable in the nurse outfit. So deranged...
- gramme0
I think Johnny Depp could pull off the Joker.
- Hmmm...that's true. He may be the obvious choice though. And better not play it like he plays Jack Sparrow, ahahaJaline
- it would be a complete movie with the nurse outfit then :p LOLdigdre
- Sounds like a warped homosexual's wet dream.detritus
- even more obvious would be Daniel Day Lewis. Or I wish...taosoul

but there was some major flaw inthe plot,
how could joker know that harvey became twoface and was in hospital?it was harveys own stupid fault that he became twoface?! no?
or am I missing something- you are missing things. Joker is the master of manipulation.Jaline
- The Joker has crooked cops in the police force too.jondj24
- yea but he couldn't know that 2face would burn half is face..digdre
- Joker bought people everywhere. He would have known. Plus Two Face was the icing, his goal was to break Harvey and show him fall.ETM
- Harvey and show he could fall. That's why he gave reversed locations for where Rachel/Harvey was. Knowing only Batman could get there in time and ensure Harvey lived and Rachel died.ETM

though i loved this movie, i will say i was quite critical of some decisions.
first and foremost it was very hard to determine who the main character was. so many scenes had equal weight as was said previously. and so many characters were pivotal.
batman/wayne
dent
gordon
the joker
rachel (more of a plot vehicle, but still important)which were the heroes? which were the antiheroes? which were the villians? i can see some of this play out on purpose. nolan did a great job with it, and he was obviously exploring thesis/antithesis/synthesis.
however, in a lesser director's hand it coudl have become a muddy fiasco. this movie was already very long, but some of it seemed rushed. the problem is this movie had too many important characters. my concern is if they do a third it will go over the top, like spider-man 3 and x-men 3 which were fucking horrible. 2 villians is too many. especially when the story arch is so complex and their characters are so intense. you skip important emotion and interaction, but there is always the hollywood need to go bigger and "better"

Yea the gordon, fucking zombie!
imo we'll see joker and 2face back in The Dark Knight Returns

And Why exactly did Morgan freeman quit his job ?
- ethicsJaline
- he didn't quit though did he, he just said that he wopuldn't work for wayne as long as that machine exists...nib101
- ...and then it got destroyednib101
- Because he was going to run for black president. Morgan is always the black president in the movies.TheBlueOne
- Exactly, nib. The film left it open that Freeman would come back.Jaline
- ok thanks
the cellphone thing was bit 'over it' imo..digdre

why did Rachel say yes to Harvey and say she'll wait for Bruce?
- coz she's a hussie!nib101
- i thought so. and i think maggie gyllenhall is very unattractive compared to katie holmesvwsung18t
- But she's a much better actress.Jaline
- She said yes because she knew that Bruce would never let go of Batman.Jaline
- what if they all lived. then rachel and harvey would be married and bruce would be like "um...."vwsung18t
- He may not have chose her the next time he had to save someone either though.Jaline

Just saw it last night and loved it. Wow. It makes those earlier Batman movies just embarrassing by comparison.
But a few questions and comments:
1) What happened to the "Narrows," both in story and visually? This looked much more like Chicago, less like the Gotham of Batman Begins. The separation of criminals/dregs of society and the rich was much less in this movie. I was more surprised by the lack of visual aspects, the contrast of two sides of the city, even with the introduction of mob storyline.
2) So did Batman effectively kill Harvey Dent at the end of the movie? Is this why he will be on the run? Was this the becoming of the Dark Knight aspect?
- Dark Knight = his nickname. Possibly b/c half the citizens hate him. They explained why he ran at the end of the movie.Jaline
- I'm not explaining this very well. Batman has always been a "dark" character. He's a hero, but also an anti-hero.Jaline
- Harvey had to be seen as the hero so that spirits among Gotham were not broken. So Batman took the blame.Jaline
- Since he already had people hating him (as well as many fans) whereas Harvey just had fans.Jaline
- I think. It's more complicated :)Jaline
- actually, batman quit his job as batman at the end.digdre
- and harvey will return in TDK returnsdigdre
- He didn't quit. He just allowed himself to get more haters.Jaline
- no, he quit. thats why all is gone in his HQ.digdre
- and he will return in The Dark Knight Returns because Joker or/and 2face are fucking up gotham.digdre
- He's the knight, or hero they need, because he does what is noble. Which was take the fall for everything to keep Harvey much needed reputation intact for the citizens.ETM
- much needed reputation intact for the citizens to hold on to and keep hope. Undo what Joker tried.ETM
- digdre.. did you actually pay attention to the movie? he didn't quit.brains
- did i even watch it. thats the question.digdre

Gave up trying to see the IMAX version here in London as it's sold out for the next three weeks(!) but I did manage to catch it last night.
Three quick thoughts:
1: It's about damn time someone made a really brilliant adult-oriented comic book movie.
2: I really hope this sees an explosion of filmmakers shooting in IMAX and doing real stunts in lieu of CGI. (yes - you Spiderman)
3: The scene with the Joker walking out of the hospital in the nurse's outfit should win an oscar all by itself.
Go see it.

i like how he clapped, in the cell.

I thought it was strange how many people laughed at Joker moments, I know you could take them as humorous, but that seemed to stray away from the intention of the character.
- its a combination of a jaded society numb to violence and a need for comic relief in a weighted role7point34
- True. It pissed me off.brains
- i laughed, but i agree. the character would have been outstanding if it were darker and more sinister, rather than bumbling and goofy7point34

Also, to clear things up.
Lucius Fox didn't quit. He said: "As long as this machine is in Wayne Enterprises, I won't work here.." Then it was destroyed, and he smiled because as the voiceover said.. "Faith would be rewarded."
Also, Batman did not "quit", despite what a few people have mentioned. He just took the fall for Dent, realizing he would do more as a vigilante in the shadows, half hated, half-idiolized than people thinking that one of the few non-crooked politicians in gotham went twisted and killed a bunch of people. He realized the people in gotham need to retain hope for real people, not those stalking the night and hiding their identities behind masks.
- Not as eloquent as it could have been, but it's the jist of it.brains
